We're excited to announce an opportunity for a dynamic and experienced operational leader to lead our Patient Flow team across Sussex. Reporting into the Managing Director for Patient Flow you will lead and develop the services relating to clinical bed management for adults and older adults, including those with dementia.
You will have excellent communication and operational skills with real commitment to provide the leadership and management for the bed management and MDIST teams. The successful candidate will also oversee the operational development of the Discharge Hubs and be part of the National Discharge Frontrunner programme. You will work closely with the wider Divisional Leadership Teams and other SPFT services, as well as external partners.

Main duties of the job

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To work closely with the Managing Director for Patient Flow as a member of the Adult Services Directorate to lead and develop the services relating to clinical bed management for adults and older adults, including those with dementia.
The post will provide the senior operational leadership and management for the Bed Management and MDIST teams and oversee the operational development of the Discharge Hubs. The post-holder will work closely with the other Deputy Service Directors, the wider Divisional Leadership Teams and other SPFT services as well as external partners.
The post holder will be expected to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of services including the effective and efficient management of all staff from all disciplines and health and social care resources to specifically deliver on the following key areas:
  • Leadership of a defined set of operational services working and participation in the leadership and development of the Divisions and services as a whole.
  • Delivery of agreed performance data and targets including activity targets in accordance with requirements laid down by NHS Improvement, Clinical Commissioning Groups, The Care Quality Commission, local authorities and professional bodies as set out in legally binding contracts agreed with the commissioners of services provided by the Trust.
  • Ensure that services are financially managed in line with the Trust's policies and procedures; this includes high levels of financial probity and managing resources within agreed budgets, delivering all savings targets and taking corrective action against adverse trends. Financial resources may come from the NHS, Local Authorities or be part of a pooled budget arrangement.
  • Lead on a change programme to improve the quality of services and patient experience, as agreed with the line Manager and divisional leadership Teams. Utilising QI and other change Management mechanisms.
  • Contribute to the attainment of Trust and Divisional strategic goals;
  • Evaluate progress against strategic objectives using a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Coordinate investigations into complaint and serious incidents, taking responsibility to ensure equality and diversity is considered in all aspects of this process, producing timely and sensitive responses that maximise learning and reduce
  • Take action to ensure the delivery of all relevant objectives, identifying risks and take corrective action in line with Trust policy.
  • Proactively communicate and seek to involve staff, service users, carers and partners at all times, particularly in relation to service development.
  • To promote and display via personal actions support for the Trust's key policies on Equality and Diversity, Exemplar Employer and use of the recovery orientated approach for people with longer term problems.
  • Develop robust relationships within the Division Board and services, contributing to a fair accountability culture by demonstrating trust and holding self and other peers to account appropriately.
  • Deputise for the Managing Director for Patient Flow as and when required.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Management qualification / professional qualification or equivalent level of experience and proven ability to perform at this level.
