Development Engineer
£29.31 per hour
37 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 08:30am - 16:45pm. Fridays 08:30am - 16:15pm
Our client is a leading manufacturer in off-highway machinery and diesel/natural gas engines, synonymous with quality and reliability on a global scale. Within their Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD), the Component Engineering team is at the forefront of mechanical design and development for engines up to 7 liters. As a key contributor to this esteemed company, you will be responsible for the development of core engine components and systems. Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking ideal candidates with a strong background in development and component ownership, possessing knowledge of IC engines. Your ability to plan and execute challenging tasks with minimal supervision will be crucial. Key skills to develop include data extraction/analysis, failure analysis, problem-solving, and practical application of theory and concepts.
- Execution of Core Engine System validation, including static & dynamic rigs, dyno, and machine testing
- Conducting risk assessments through effective FMEA generation on components and systems
- Root cause analysis using relevant tools, methods, data analysis, and testing
- Generating reports to support component and system design reviews
- Maintaining communication with peers, team leader, and stakeholders, updating progress against planned activities
- Supporting resolution to production, test, and field issues, including diagnosing issues to root cause, implementing containment actions, and developing permanent corrective actions in collaboration with suppliers
Background/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science, with 3-5 years of experience
- Demonstrated excellent analytical skills
- Proven ability to perform complex assignments
- Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills
- Effective communication skills
Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required:
- Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering)
- Knowledge of Diesel engine core systems (Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather, and Cooling systems)
- Understanding of Manufacturing principles & processes
- Validation experience of mechanical components and systems, including both rig and complete system testing
- Self-motivation and ability to manage and deliver tasks to meet established commitments
- Excellent communications skills & Teamwork
Desirable:
- Bolted joint and sealing experience
- 8D problem-solving, Creation and Maintenance of DVP&R and FMEA's
- Experience in running and participating in FMEA
- Knowledge and usage of Team Centre - data management software
- New design development following the APQP methodology
- Familiarity with Microsoft O365, including Teams
