Job Title: Development Engineer
Salary: £46,000 + Dependent upon experience
Location : Peterborough, Cambridgshire

Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Development Engineer to join the Component Engineering Base Engine Team.
Implementing change through testing, development and validation techniques this role will focus on managing cost reduction and resolving field related reliability and durability issues for existing Product Platforms.
In addition, there will be challenging projects related to New Product Introduction or updates to existing platforms for a variety of Caterpillar and 3rd Party applications.
The successful candidate will serve as an experienced contributor on assignments that are complex in nature, working with individuals and teams across global Manufacturing sites, suppliers and customers.
What You Will Do
As a Development Engineer in the team, you will be expected to have a mix of design and development experience, knowledge of IC engines and be able to lead, plan and execute challenging tasks/projects. Tasks will include:
Execution of validation work consisting of static & dynamic rigs, dyno and machine testing
Planning and managing project and sub-project deliverables
Providing regular, concise & effective communication to a range of stakeholders, peers & stakeholders
Conducting risk assessment through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
Be capable of understanding technical issues as they arise and execute root cause analysis through relevant tools, methods, data analysis and testing to resolve the issue
Conduct or generate reports to support component and system design reviews
Support resolution to production, test and field issues, diagnose issues to root cause, put in place containment actions, and develop permanent corrective actions.
Work with suppliers using APQP methodology and tools
What You Have
Technical Excellence
Level Working Knowledge:
Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications or experience are equally valued.
Knowledge of Core Engine systems including Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather and Cooling systems.
Good understanding of Component Manufacturing principles & processes.
Good understanding of Manufacturing Assembly principles.
Experience gained in the off-highway diesel or machine sector
Experience with Hydrogen engines
Experience in component and engine validation & verification
Bolted joint and sealing experience
Effective Communications
Level Working Knowledge:
Excellent communications skills & Teamwork
To collaborate & manage interactions on behalf of Caterpillar with external suppliers to develop design solutions.
Troubleshooting Technical Problems
Level Working Knowledge:
Knowledge and usage of Team Centre – data management software
Familiarity with the APQP methodology
Experience of running and participating in FMEA
