ROLE PROFILE
As a Vehicle Configuration And Test System (VCATS) Engineer with Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) you will be responsible for implementing the vehicle diagnostic processes into the JLR Trim & Final Assembly lines in support of the launch of the new vehicles, features & functions expected from our customers.
To implement the processes you will be working directly with the Product Engineering teams, fellow Manufacturing Engineers, GME Facilities teams, Manufacturing IT oragnisation, and of course the Production teams as you get involved from the design inception through to 1st Customer car production. Your goals are to influence the product design to ensure that it is not only feasible & safe to assemble but also efficient. In pursuit of these goals you'll have the opportunity to develop & deploy new software & hardware tools, in combination with new IT solutions, both inhouse and with Suppliers.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Define, create, and maintain in the relevant test systems, the key Test Processes standards within the Bill-of-Test framework.
- Validate the Test Processes (Test sequences) prior to release to the customer eg Engineering Integration, T&F Production Line
- Assess the Engineering defined Manufacturing T&F Configuration and Test Requirements, challenging requirements to ensure they are optimised to achieve the VCATS, Programme & Enterprise targets.
- Participate in VCATS Teams in the implementation (deployment) of the test processes and tools into the target plants.
- Develop the Test Process standards in collaboration with the stakeholder teams through the understanding of the deviations necessary in the individual plants.
- Collaborate across the VCATS Teams to maximise the RFT & DFV in each plant.
- Participate in innovation & projects to develop alternative processes & tools to drive JLR towards it's Vision.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and Design principles in the development of, and changes to, the Bill-of-Test in collaboration with all VCATS Teams to support the improvement of the Manufacturing KPI's.
- Propose the hardware / system requirements to support the VCATS Test Processes and collaborate with all VCATS teams to agree standards.
WHAT YOU-ll NEED
Essential: - Relevant previous experience of Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering processes, tools and techniques
- Demonstrable ability to create detailed and effective action plans
- Relevant previous experience with Scrum framework
Desirable: - Ideally educated to degree level in Mechatronics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering or a similar engineering discipline
- Knowledge of and involvement in the product development phase
- Project management experience
- Understanding of vehicle diagnostics systems
