The Elton John AIDS Foundation was established in 1992 and is one of the leading independent AIDS organizations in the world. The Foundation's mission is simple: an end to the AIDS epidemic. The Elton John AIDS Foundation is committed to overcome the stigma, discrimination and neglect that keeps us from ending AIDS. With the mobilization of our network of generous supporters and partners, we fund local experts across four continents to challenge discrimination, prevent infections and provide treatment as well as influencing governments to end AIDS.
The Foundation is supported by a staff of 30 operating out of offices in London and New York. At the beginning of 2019 we began an ambitious five-year strategic plan to further our vision and expand our staff and resources. It is essential that our team is made up of individuals who share our passion for the important, life changing work that we do.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Elton John AIDS Foundation is currently searching for a Content Officer based in the UK, working on a hybrid schedule from our London office. This role will support the Communications and Marketing team with planning, creation, delivery, filing and day-to-day management of content across our channels – including social media, website and email communications.
The Communications and Marketing team supports the whole organisation, meaning our work is varied and you will have the opportunity to work on a range of exciting and meaningful projects. The Content Officer will play a vital role in storytelling around the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s message and vision to increase awareness around HIV/AIDS and related topics, showcase the impact of our work with grantees all around the world, and inspire people to donate.
The ideal candidate will be both strategic, creative, and organised in their approach to content, making sure that new materials are highly engaging, audience-focused, accessible, on-brand and adhere to content best practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the Communications and Marketing team with the planning and delivery of a new content strategy aligned with the Foundation’s strategic goals.
- Design and produce high-quality written and visual content for a range of platforms and purposes. Content should be engaging, inspiring, informative, persuasive, and adhere to brand guidelines and tone of voice. This will include but is not limited to:
- Maintaining and creating content for our website
- Planning, writing, and creating audience led content for our social media channels
- Writing and preparing case study content aligning with brand goals and highlighting our impact
- Producing infographics rooted in audience research
- Designing and delivering other multimedia materials
- Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and grantees to gather stories, data, and insights to showcase the Foundation's achievements and initiatives which can be developed for cross-channel communication efforts such as media pitching, communications to donors, website updates and for social media.
- Research content themes that will be engaging to our audiences, using data and insights to inform your approach.
- Assist the Digital Communications Manager with maintaining the digital asset management system, including the organisation and uploading of photography, films, case studies, consent forms and updating caption content.
- Assist the Associate Director of Digital Marketing with the creation and execution of content required for digital advertising campaigns.
- Provide guidance and support to other team members and partners in content creation and communication strategies as needed.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging storytelling techniques to enhance content quality and engagement.
- Monitor and help manage risk across key digital channels.
- Provide administrative support for the department, including social media reporting, campaign recaps, list management, sample trafficking, industry reports, etc.
REPORTING STRUCTURE:
This role reports to the Digital Communications Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- 2-3 years' experience in content creation or social media
- A solid understanding of content best practice. This includes SEO, accessibility, and UX.
- Proven track record of working cross-functionally and managing priorities.
- Must be passionate about creating quality content that speaks to different audiences.
- Strong copywriting skills.
- Experience using Adobe software such as Photoshop and Premiere Pro, as well as tools such as Canva.
- Confident using a content management system (CMS) to create and edit content on a website – at the Elton John AIDS Foundation we use WordPress.
- An understanding of how to use social media scheduling tools such as Buffer or Hootsuite.
- Ability to work in an exciting environment under deadline, with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple and competing tasks and establish priorities to remain flexible, and to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience of working in a charitable organisation is a bonus.
