Responsibilities
The Digital Innovation lead will have a team to manage and will be in charge for directing the whole DHL Supply Chain Japan digital transformation and automation agenda.
He / She will operate with both creativity and business acumen, drive initiatives that cultivate adigitalization and innovation culture within DHL supply chain Japan, streamline the execution of innovative ideas, and ultimately unlock value for DHL and its customers.
Automation part
Promote automation in DHL Supply Chain Japan and ensure implementation of appropriate solution to the needs of operations, that will improve productivity and generate cost benefit.
• Responsible for designing end-to-end automation roadmap with clear milestones and savings delivery for DHL Supply Chain Japan.
• Identify automation needs and right solution to the operation.
• Work with Japan cross-functional teams, and regional/global innovation team for
solution confirmation and implementation.
• Work with Solution Design on conceptual design of automated solutions that can be
viable be implemented.
• Steering the vendor selection process by giving final approval or sharing showstoppers.
• Drawing up supplier contracts, with a focus on technical solution specification, output and throughput, KPIs, acceptance criteria and tests.
• Coordinating and participating in Site Acceptance testing, System Integration test, User Acceptance test and DILO relative to the project.
• Ensuring structured communication between internal and external project stakeholders, motivating them to achieve strong results.
• Ensuring automation projects are successfully implemented, ensuring correct knowledge ownership in the running operations; ensuring the vendor delivers according to contractual expectations.
• Increasing the standardization of automation solutions to improve speed in answering to customer needs/requirements.
Digitalization part
• Work with Japan operations and cross-functional teams in reviewing current state
technology and process, make recommendations on future state, and lead transformation projects, and consult with regional/global digital team when necessary.
• Leverage Technology to Automate processes, Reduce Touches, and Improve Efficiencies.
• Evaluate, recommend, and develop appropriate automation software and systems for business adoption.
• Understand, document, and model logistics strategies and decision-making processes in technical systems.
• Lead Design, Development, and Integration of Digital Solutions, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Process Automation, and/or Prescriptive and Predictive Analytics Tools within
the BI Platform
• Promote the use of “big data” and Analytics with the use of Business Intelligence Tools
Requirements
Technical Skills:
• Master’s degree in mechatronics/electromechanical Engineering and/or practical
experience in automation controls or software engineering; Solid understanding of
information systems and engineering theory. Trained on latest machine directives
standards, and you continuously work in upgrading your knowledge through trainings.
• 7+ years’ experience designing & implementing automations for warehouses involving conveyors, ASRS, G2P, sorting systems, etc.
• Excellent knowledge of the landscape and possibilities of automation suppliers. Solid
understanding of the project life cycle of automated material handling systems and
equipment.
• A strong understanding of digital technologies and trends is essential. This includes
knowledge of emerging technologies like data analytics, machine learning, business
process automation, Low-Code / No-Code or Generative AI.
• Ability to grow a team in terms of knowledge and attitude. You are comfortable in a
matrix organization working together with cross-functional teams.
• Good command of Japanese and English.
Soft Skills:
• Excellent communication skills are essential for effectively liaising with stakeholders,
facilitating collaboration among team members, and presenting project updates to
senior management.
• Strong problem-solving abilities are necessary for identifying and addressing challenges that arise during digitalization projects.
• The digital landscape is constantly evolving, so adaptability and a willingness to learn
new technologies and methodologies are critical.
• The ability to motivate, mentor, and lead diverse teams toward common objectives is
essential for success in senior roles.
