Job Description
An opportunity has arisen for an Innovation Lead (Maternity Cover) in the Research and Innovation (R&I) function. Abcam is constantly identifying and evaluating technologies which will enable new products or enhance our discovery capabilities across R&D. These ideas and technologies come from inside Abcam, from other Danaher operating companies, our many collaborators across academia and life sciences and biotech companies.
In this role you will collate ideas, scout for technologies and provide verbal and written technical evaluations into the Abcam innovation process. To achieve this you will work collaborative with colleagues across our R&D platforms, research areas, product, corporate and business development functions. The role will report to the VP R&I.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Collate the requirements across R&D platforms and research areas to produce technologies roadmaps which compliment product roadmaps and guide technology and capability development.
- Scout for ideas and technologies ranging from the incremental to the transformative across Abcam, Danaher OpCos, academia, life sciences reagents and tools companies and biotech.
- Monitor and report on emerging technologies.
- Build databases of technologies which can interrogated to determine future trends and potential customer needs.
- Evaluate technologies against the requirements set out by the business, e.g. target product profiles and make critical judgements on the suitability of the technology
- Present your findings in concise written form across the business, in particular to the research and innovation function and the Innovation Steering Committee.
- Act as a technical expert as Abcam evaluates corporate or business development opportunities.
Qualifications
You have a life sciences background with a degree in a relevant science or engineering subject. You Strong understanding of life sciences innovation and the factors critical to successful commercialization of technologies. This may have been acquired working in venture capital or technology licensing.
You have proven ability to evaluate ideas and technologies based on the integration of evidence from a variety of sources, eg. presentations, scientific literature, discussions with colleagues. You are comfortable working in a matrix environment where success is achieved through listening and influencing.
You are highly organized and analytical with good record keeping skills and a strong attention to detail. You have strong verbal & written communication skills are required.
