We have an exciting opportunity to join our Chartered Accountant training programme in August 2024, with one position available in our Dundee office. The position will initially be offered on a five-year fixed term training contract, beginning with a year in our grants team, followed by a transition to external audit for the subsequent four years. Throughout this journey, we provide continuous support and mentoring to facilitate a smooth and enjoyable transition from school or college to professional life.
During your training contract, you will be:
- Given the opportunity early on to work on a variety of clients, ranging from owner-managed businesses to major family-owned and multinational companies and not-for-profit organisations
- There are opportunities to work in different business areas within our full-service client offering
- Developing your business advisory skills through our HL Training Academy
- Covering a variety of tasks, enabling you to grow personally as well as professionally
- Working in a busy, high-performing teams, constantly learning from those around you as part of your on-the-job training
- Assist with work on grant audits.
- Support grant audit team on administration tasks – preparing files and collecting initial audit documents from clients.
- Establish sample sizes, where appropriate, and select samples from data supplied from clients.
- Liaise with clients to collect documentary evidence on the sample of costs for review
- Going out as part of the team on your first audit, leading assignments, coaching, and developing colleagues, attending client meetings or preparing reports for presentation to clients.
- Given study and exam leave to ensure you pass your exams
- Supported throughout your training contract, both financially and by people who have successfully completed the ICAS qualification
What we are looking for:
- Four A or B passes at Higher level (or equivalent). These must include English and Maths and preferably achieved within the same academic year. Or HNC/D or equivalent.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and oral
- A demonstrable interest in business and financial issues
- A well-developed sense of client service
- Excellent attention to detail
- A proactive and analytical approach to problem-solving
- Demonstrates a committed and determined attitude towards work and achieving the ICAS qualification.

The closing date for applications is 31 March 2024. The Assessment Centre will be held on the 17 April followed by interviews on 18 April.
