The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is one of London’s most vibrant, diverse and densely populated boroughs. We are home to Royal Palaces, Notting Hill Carnival, the Chelsea Flower Show and over 40 embassies, we host a number of the nations most visited museums and institutions. High density brings challenges around traffic congestion, air pollution and noise nuisance, and we understand how important these issues are to our communities. We want to make Kensington and Chelsea the best urban setting in which to live by creating healthy, resilient, well connected and amazing spaces.
The Role:As our new Director of Highways and Regulatory Services, you will lead high profile and visible services which are highly valued by our communities and elected members. You will deliver an exceptional highways maintenance programme, spanning 180km of roads and four major bridges, and a modern transport and parking function which supports residents, visitors and the business community.
At the heart of this role is a commitment to enhancing the quality of life and safety of the borough's residents. You will play a crucial part in our ambitious plans to invest in our captivating built environment and ensure the timely delivery of associated capital programs.
Just as important will be the leadership of Regulatory Services. We place special attention on ensuring the safety of our residents. This follows on from the lessons we have drawn from the Grenfell tragedy. Other key areas of environmental health work include identifying rogue landlords, the work our newly formed street enforcement team, our private rented sector licensing scheme and working with high profile businesses.
About You:We are committed to becoming the best Council and we are seeking an ambitious and strategic senior leader with a background in Regulatory Services or Highways and transportation that can deliver this.
