Salary: £85,000 to £90,000 per annum, pro rata.

We've got an exciting interim opportunity to share with you. We are seeking someone dynamic to step into the role Director of Policy, Research and Advocacy.
In this pivotal role, you'll be a catalyst for change during a crucial general election year. Your goal? To navigate the British Red Cross towards creating tangible and impactful transformations for the individuals we support.
In this role you will ensure the British Red Cross delivers ambitious and impactful UK-wide advocacy strategies dedicated to improving the UK refugee and asylum systems, reducing health inequalities, and strengthening crisis response and community resilience in the UK.

Wondering about a day in the life of a Director of Policy, Research & Advocacy? You’ll:
- Guide a high performing department that is inclusive, kind and empathetic, passionate about our causes, pragmatic and focused on impact and evidence driven.
- Secure organisational support for the department’s plans and strategies, and inspire an organisational commitment to achieve change at-scale.
- Ensure the design and delivery of an overarching, impactful UK-wide advocacy strategy, which encompasses the development of evidence-based poli
- Monitor department performance and ensure continuous improvement of the department’s plans and strategies.
- Ensure the public affairs component of the department delivers a high impact influencing programme focused on persuading decision makers and their influencers to drive through policy and practice change, in line with our principles.
- Engage, develop and maintain relationships with target decision makers and influencers.
- Oversee external engagement, influencing opportunities related and act as a senior spokesperson, representing the organisation’s interests and Advocacy issues to internal and external audiences.
- Up to date, deep understanding of UK government and parliament and devolved administrations.
- Strong understanding of Policy development processes and research approaches.
- Ability to direct the design and implementation of advocacy programmes.
- Committed to continuously improving knowledge and its application of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
- Articulate and confident, able to communicate and present complex issues clearly to a variety of audiences, with good presentation and communication skills.
- Drafting, including the ability to write with impact for a diverse range of audiences and draft policy publications, briefings and reports
- Extensive experience of working as a policy and Advocacy specialist in a large high-profile organisation.
- Leading the planning and implementation of successful policy and Advocacy plans for an organisation with diverse needs.
- Managing business plans and operating budgets.
