About the Role
1

The School of Engineering is actively seeking a dedicated professional to join as the Director of Student Projects (DoSP), filling a permanent teaching-focussed Associate Professor position.

In this role, the Director will serve as a vital link between academic, pastoral, and administrative facets within our undergraduate, degree apprenticeship, and postgraduate degree programmes. With a student body of approximately 1600, the Director will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the overall quality of our educational provision.

The successful candidate will take the lead in coordinating strategic initiatives to enhance the student experience through project-based learning. You will also be expected to make a contribution to module teaching on the School’s programmes.

As the Director of Student Projects, you will play a pivotal role in infusing innovation into our curriculum through project-based learning, providing students with real-world applications of their theoretical knowledge. Your commitment to elevate industry-relevant projects into our programmes will not only enhance the educational experience but also equip our graduates with the practical skills needed for success in their future careers. This position represents a unique opportunity to shape the academic landscape by fostering a culture of innovation and skills development through hands-on projects.

For informal enquiries, please contact Professor Georgia Kremmyda (g.kremmyda@warwick.ac.uk).

We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so. Applications from candidates in groups underrepresented in the Engineering sector are particularly welcome.

About You
1

You will possess excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills and have significant experience of championing change management in a complex and challenging environment. You will have a good understanding of national policy relating to teaching in higher education, particularly teaching excellence and the mechanisms in place to assess such excellence across institutions.

A proven track record in delivering high-quality undergraduate teaching, with a focus on innovation and the incorporation of industry-relevant projects into the curriculum, is essential. We seek an individual committed to advancing students' skills development through practical applications, ensuring our graduates are well-equipped for success in a dynamic professional landscape.

You will have a PhD or equivalent doctoral-level qualification or substantial relevant professional experience in a field directly relevant to the post. You will be in possession of a teaching qualification or HEA accreditation (at Fellow level or higher). If relevant, you must be willing to complete Warwick’s Academic and Professional Pathway for Teaching Excellence (APP TE) and/or seek (further) HEA accreditation when in post. While the position is teaching-focussed, as part of your role we will strongly encourage and support you in the pursuit of individual scholarly and/or pedagogical research to contribute to the lively research culture of the Department.

About the Department
1

The School of Engineering is a multidisciplinary department which aspires for excellence in teaching and research. We run a substantial number of undergraduate courses (see https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/eng/undergraduate/) and taught masters courses (see https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/eng/postgraduate/). We currently have in excess of 1,200 students on taught courses with an annual Year 1 undergraduate intake of c. 350 students. We have recently launched two Degree Apprenticeship courses (see https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/eng/degree_apprenticeships/).

The School is divided into four Discipline Streams (Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical, Materials and Process Engineering, and Systems and Information Engineering). This post reports to the Head of Teaching, but an affiliation with one of the School’s Discipline Streams is required for the purposes of personal teaching practice. For this post, we are flexible with regards to the individual’s teaching area, provided they can teach a significant number of our undergraduate modules. Applicants should specify how they can contribute to our teaching in their application.

The role of Director of Student Projects is not currently used in the School of Engineering. This post provides an opportunity for the successful applicant to shape the School’s portfolio of Student Projects at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
