Job Description
ROLE OVERVIEW
Brookfield Properties is seeking an experienced Risk and Insurance professional to join the real estate group in London, UK. The role will be responsible for all insurance related matters relating to Brookfield's European real estate business, which is made up of office, retail multi-family, logistics and hospitality assets. The role directly reports to the Managing Director, Investments, with a focused reporting line into the global Risk and Insurance team in New York, USA.
This role requires an ability to work with individuals across all levels of the organization; strong analytical and organizational skills; and the willingness to take initiative within a demanding environment. Excellent judgment and discretion are required to handle high volumes of confidential information.
Candidate should have a robust understanding of core insurance coverages, including but not limited to Property, Third Party Liability, Employers Liability, Cyber, Fleet, Crime, D&O, and Professional Liability. The candidate must have an ability to identify risks and exposures relevant to Brookfield's core operations. Candidates should be resourceful and efficient, as well as flexible and reliable with a positive 'can-do' disposition.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all local, group insurance programmes.
- Assess any gaps in cover or recommend enhancements to existing insurance programmes
- Market insurance programmes on annual basis to drive best market terms and pricing
- Identify, analyze and address risk exposures faced by Brookfield
- Provide consultative support to various internal business units, such as the portfolio management, legal, finance and capital markets teams
- Coordinate insurance due diligence review of potential target acquisitions and support on financing processes
- Oversee and guide portfolio companies within Brookfield's private real estate funds in relation to their insurance programmes
- Provide risk management support activities such as creating presentations and data-lined workbooks
- Coordinate claim correspondence and relevant documentation. Manage filing and reporting to brokers and insurers
- Be the regional touchpoint" for the global insurance leads to assist and drive consistency with insurance mandates across Brookfield's real estate group
- Understand jurisdictional specific insurance policies and needs, specific to European countries
- Manage and evaluate relationships with key vendors - brokers, insurers, third party administrators, etc.
- Explore the viability of alternative risk structures / vehicles beneficial to Brookfield
- Degree qualified
- Minimum five (5) years' related industry experience
- Industry relevant certifications a plus
- Acute attention to detail
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills (quantitative and qualitative)
- Effective written and communication skills
- Excellent planning, project management, and organizational skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines, balancing multiple and competing priorities
- Capable of working as a member of a team or independently when necessary; knows when to seek guidance or clarity
- Competency with Microsoft business software, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
