International Operational Excellence (IOE) is responsible for supporting our international issuing and acquiring businesses across 27+ countries and ensuring they have a robust first line of defence. International OE plays an active role in enabling the businesses to meet their growth objectives whilst demonstrating an effective control framework.
Our organization helps our international businesses manage non-financial risk, respond to new regulation, and develop new products whilst creating and furthering effective partnerships across multiple key partners across the organization.
We are looking for a technical Operational Risk Director to join our team and coordinate the identification, assessment and mitigation of Operational Risks related to emerging trends. You will be responsible for developing a framework that aligns with the American Express Operational Risk policies and regulatory requirements. You will also collaborate with senior legal entity management, Market leadership and second line partners to ensure effective risk management and governance of emerging risks across the organisation as well as ensuring the right technical advice is provided to the delivery teams executing on the emerging risk changes.
How will you make an impact in this role?
- Lead the emerging risk function for ICS with a focus on Operational Resilience, Artificial Intelligence, Technology infrastructure and other emerging risks.
- Establish and communicate a comprehensive risk profile, pulling in relevant risk themes, metrics and other risk measures.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the legal entities, markets and delivery teams on emerging risk including risk identification, assessment and mitigation.
- Represent ICS in company-wide programs in these emerging risk areas: to support establishing these frameworks ensuring international nuances are understood and integrated, and to leverage guidance and input to support international market executions.
- Develop and maintain a register of emerging risks that are consistent with the American Express Operational Risk program.
- Track pan International emerging regulations and implementations in these risk areas and highlight areas of risk or concern.
- Promote an excellent understanding of emerging risks across the ICS Organisation through training programs.
- Provide hands on support and advocacy for Legal Entities and Business Units in delivering on their obligations.
- Partner with the broader ICS OE and RCM teams where applicable
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Operational Risk Management preferably in the Financial Services industry.
- In-depth knowledge of emerging risk trends, technology, best practices and regulatory expectations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation and inter-personal skills.
- Ability to influence and partner with senior stakeholders across the organisation.
- Able to retain a big picture strategic focus, to judge when to drill into more detail and when to take a high-level view.
- Credible leader with proven track record of developing talent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certification in Operational Risk Management or Compliance would be beneficial.
- Experience in technology governance and/or change and strong knowledge of operational resilience would be a benefit
