Job description

Directorate of Learning and Wellbeing

The Royal Veterinary College is the UK's largest and longest-established independent vet school and is a Member Institution of the University of London.  The RVC offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in veterinary medicine, veterinary nursing, and biological sciences, and CPD programmes in veterinary medicine and veterinary nursing.

We are looking for a part time (0.6 FTE) Disability Adviser to join our Advice Centre team. You will provide expert advice, guidance and support to students (both current and prospective) with a wide range of disabilities, including Specific Learning Differences (SpLD) such as Dyslexia or Dyspraxia; neurodiversity, such as Autism and ADHD, and long-term or chronic health conditions. You will work with students to identify appropriate support, including reasonable adjustments and external support such as the Disabled Students Allowance, and liaise with colleagues across the RVC to ensure students are appropriately supported.

You will also provide advice to colleagues on disability support issues and contribute to the ongoing development of RVC policy, processes and delivery of initiatives to ensure the RVC is following best practice in supporting disabled students.

We are looking for positive, motivated candidates with experience of providing high quality support to disabled people.  You must be an excellent communicator with the ability to work independently and as part of a small team. Being highly organised with a proven ability to manage a caseload effectively is also required.

The Advice Centre is part of the Directorate of Learning and Wellbeing. The Directorate of Learning and Wellbeing aims to create inclusive wellness environments for study and work as part of a whole university approach to wellbeing for staff and students.

We offer a generous reward package and benefits including:

  • Competitive and attractive pension package
  • Generous 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays & concessionary days)
  • Access to free in-house CPD and funded external CPD
  • A range of family friendly policies, including adoption, maternity and paternity pay and leave
  • On site café and restaurant
  • Free membership to the newly built Fitness and Wellbeing Centre located on site (gym, badminton, climbing wall, Zumba, yoga and Pilates classes included)
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free mini-bus service to and from Potters Bar station and Hawkshead Campus

Informal enquiries on this role can be directed to Steve Short, Deputy Director of Learning and Wellbeing/Head of the Advice Centre at

The RVC values Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and therefore welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.   Balancing both the needs of the business with those of our staff, we will consider applications to work on a flexible basis.
