HSBC Asset Management (AM), the investment management business of the HSBC Group, serves HSBC’s worldwide customer base of retail and private clients, intermediaries, corporates and institutions invested in both segregated accounts and pooled funds. HSBC Asset Management fulfils its purpose of connecting HSBC’s clients with investment opportunities around the world through an international network of offices in approximately 30 countries, delivering global capabilities with local market insight.

The Economic Analyst will be a part of the Global Investment Strategy Team (GIS) at HSBC Asset Management, which is led by the Chief Strategist. This team is responsible for conducting top-down research to support decision-making across the global investment platform, and for creating thought leadership and actionable market insights for clients, partners, and key stakeholders. The Economic Analyst will assist the GIS team by producing and presenting macro analysis and research on investment strategy. They will also generate economic scenarios and forecasts, contribute to Retail Bank & Wealth Management publications, and assist in developing the AM House View. In this role you will:

•  Create macroeconomic research, analysis, and forecasts to inform the team's asset class perspectives (AM House View). This information aids investment decisions throughout HSBC AM's global front office. 
•  Support the Director of Macro Strategy in developing macroeconomic scenarios and forecasts for major developed markets
•  Contribute written content for publications, presentations, white papers, blogs, and investment commentaries
•  Communicate the macro and investment outlooks to the multi-asset platform, fixed income, credit, and equities teams
•  Thrive in a collaborative and open environment that fosters debate and the exchange of ideas. The role requires a willingness and ability to advocate for macroeconomic and asset class perspectives.

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

•  Essential: A thorough understanding of economic theory and applied economics is essential for this role. 
•  Prior working experience as a macroeconomist/strategist in a central bank, finance ministry, research consultancy, or financial institution is essential for this role.
•  Proficient drafting skills for clear and concise writing on financial market, macroeconomic, and geopolitical developments.
•  Ability to tailor written and spoken presentations to different audiences, from retail clients to seasoned investment professionals 
•  Desirable but not essential experience in economic forecasting or coverage of developed European economies - Strong verbal presentation skills are advantageous

This is a Hybrid working role with the base location as London. The role holder will have to have the ability to commute to this location.
