Job description

Role purpose:

We are expanding our economics capability within our Group External Affairs Division to provide economic analysis and insights to support the development of our policy and regulatory strategy and related external engagement, in an effort to better align it with our business strategy.


The Economist Analyst is part of a small specialist team of economists, policy advisors and lawyers in Vodafone’s Group External Affairs function that develops economic analysis, insights and arguments to helps shape the regularly framework, drive policy advocacy and change within the telecom and digital sector across Vodafone’s footprint in 20 markets in Europe and Africa. The work will also involve understanding and modelling various commercial aspects of the business, in order to inform the economic regulatory work.


The Analyst plays a vital role in providing quantitative analysis and insights across our markets to support and evidence the development of strategies, policy and regulatory positions and arguments in the area of fixed and mobile networks (including copper, cable, fibre, mobile networks and spectrum).


The role involves understanding the telecom landscape across Europe - the development and evolution of markets, the competitive positions of players – and using this analysis and insights to help refine our commercial, policy and regulatory priorities. The successful candidate will be curious about our sector, its evolution, able to handle data collection and analysis confidently to answer strategic questions relating to our markets, networks, cost structure and competitiveness.


With us you will:

  • Support the design of economic analysis and research to answer economic and policy questions
  • Identify data requirements and take responsibility for sourcing, organising and processing of market and costing data to carry out specific analysis across our markets
  • Support the delivery of presentations and reports to senior management within Vodafone and externally to regulators and policymakers
  • Contribute to the development of Vodafone’s economics capability through knowledge sharing across the organisation and provide inputs into commercial decision across all part of our business.


Who you are:

  • Educated to degree level in economics, preferably with a post-graduate qualification (MSc in Economics) with a focus on microeconomics, industrial organization or econometrics
  • Good communication skills with ability to present both orally and in writing technical economic analyses
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office
  • Experience of manipulating large amount of data in Microsoft Excel and potentially able to use econometric programmes such as STATA.
