About the Role

The Newspaper Operations team is responsible for leading the operational planning, production and timely distribution of our printed titles. We deliver an innovative, collaborative approach to the planning and delivery of the printed product, improving process, using technology and our talent to make our print operations smarter.
You'll manage the timely transmission of pages to the print sites, liaising with Editorial and the press sites and following procedures to complete, in a timely manner, each day’s transmission accurately and effectively.
We're looking for a competent, diligent and communicative member of staff working at an intermediate level across the department’s functions who can provide a practical level of technical expertise in their work process areas to support others.
It’s an exciting, challenging role and requires high levels of attention to detail with the role covering Edition Control and imaging responsibilities , and you'll operate throughout the week (Monday to Sunday), responding to business requirements.

Flexibility is important, as the role is onsite and covers 5 over 7 days including bank holidays. The earliest shift start time is 15:00 and on occasion the latest shift may go past 00:30, so travelling home should be a consideration before applying.

Key Responsibilities

A Coordinator helps to deliver the highest standards of work to achieve the very best for our publications, and is competent and flexible enough to fully engage with the various elements of the role. You will be required to:

● Ensures the timely delivery of the right pages to correct press sites.

● Ensures press sites are correctly notified of relevant press runs.

● Check the final page proofs to ensure all elements are present and correct.

● Takes the initiative, and the correct action, when required to ensure successful commencement of our print runs.

● Ensures editioning and zoning are correctly done in Editorial and Advertising, such as regional editions and splitting zoned ads.

● Reports clearly on each day’s transmission.

● Able to work late shifts - weekday and weekend shift cover

Desirable Skills

● Advanced Photoshop re-touching skills in print production

● Fully competent with handling & basics of picture production cutouts in Photoshop.

● Intermediate level print publishing knowledge - Newspapers and magazines

● Intermediate colour reproduction and colour management skills.

● Addressing problems, analysing and applying judgement.

● An experience based approach to problem solving.

● Can effectively deploy standard solutions to problems.

● Makes priority judgements in handling of workload in relation to problems.

● Is confident to suggest improvements to established solutions.

● Processes large quantities of detailed information with high levels of accuracy.

● Productively balances speed and accuracy.

● Implements a variety of cross-checking approaches and mechanisms.

● Evaluates and makes contributions to best practices.

● Advises others to carry out responsibilities based on understanding of key organizational functions.

● Recommends efficiencies in operational functions wherever possible.

● Evaluates relevant industry practices from an operations perspective and works accordingly.

● Designs awareness programs for multi- and cross-functional issues of the regulatory environment
