With over 115,000 members in 140 countries, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) has been at the heart of the mechanical engineering profession since 1847.
We strive to improve the world through engineering by developing engineers, promoting engineering, informing opinion and encouraging innovation.
We are Investors in People (IIP) Gold accredited, which reflects our organisation’s commitment to our employees who are a vital part of supporting our engineers.
We are now looking for an Education & Skills Policy Advisor to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis.
The Role
As an Education & Skills Policy Advisor, you will provide engineering education policy advice to the media, employers, governments, academic bodies and other institutions.
Providing thought leadership and expert advice to external stakeholders, you will work with members, the media and politicians, supporting our Education and Skills policy and promoting engineering education.
You will attend collaborative education boards to advise and assist with promoting engineering as a career, both internally and through external media opportunities, speaking about pathways into engineering and the different types of engineering roles available.
Additionally, you will:
- Write and deliver technically accurate engineering education and Skills Policy
- Conduct research with expert members and other organisations and commentators
- Develop and deliver campaigning policy positions
- Produce blogs, social media content, policy statements, case studies, campaigns and reports
About You
To be considered as an Education & Skills Policy Advisor, you will need:
- Experience of report and article writing
- Experience addressing sensitive issues, presenting complex data and providing feedback
- An understanding of current engineering education and professional development issues
The Benefits
- Salary of circa £45,000 per annum depending on experience
- 26 days’ holiday per annum plus Bank Holidays
- An extra day off for your birthday
- Benefits including stakeholder pension scheme, life assurance and private health cover
- Continuous training and career development
- A range of wellbeing benefits to encourage a healthy work-life balance
This is a brilliant opportunity for a skilled Policy Advisor with experience writing reports and articles to join our global organisation.
You will have the chance to embrace a holistic approach to professional development, where every project, report and media engagement contributes to your growth and impact. With opportunities for training, networking and skill enhancement, you will continuously evolve as an expert policy leader in the engineering landscape.
So, if you want to be part of a team that is driving innovation, championing inclusion and transforming engineering education for generations to come, apply today!
The closing date for this role is 26th April 2024 and this date can be brought forward if we have found the right candidate.
