Job Opportunity: Environmental Health Officer
Join a dynamic team dedicated to improving living standards within our vibrant community. We're seeking passionate individuals who are committed to ensuring safe and well-managed housing for all residents. As part of our efforts to shape a private rented sector that works for everyone, you'll play a crucial role in making a positive impact on people's lives.
About Us: We're on a mission to build a thriving community where everyone has the opportunity to flourish. Engaging in vital conversations and driving radical social change, we're committed to leaving no one behind. Our focus on making homes in our borough safe, well-maintained, and welcoming is central to our vision.
About the Role: As a member of our Private Sector Housing Service, you'll be at the forefront of enforcing standards within the private rented sector. Your responsibilities will include investigating complaints, overseeing licensing schemes, and employing a range of enforcement tools to tackle sub-standard accommodation. You'll also advocate for grants and landlord accreditation to enhance housing quality.
About You: We're looking for qualified Environmental Health Officers or ambitious graduates with a degree in Environmental Health (or equivalent). You should have a solid understanding of relevant legislation and demonstrate strong communication skills. Your ability to manage priorities, collaborate with partners, and handle sensitive information will be crucial to success in this role.
Work Environment: You'll enjoy a mix of office-based tasks and on-site inspections throughout the borough. While most of your work will be in the office, you should be prepared for lone working in various environments, some of which may be challenging. Adherence to health and safety guidelines is paramount.
Relationships: Building effective partnerships with stakeholders including landlords, tenants, government agencies, and local businesses will be essential.
Over to You: Join us in redefining what a career can be. Bring your ideas, your perspectives, and your passion for making a difference. If you're ready to contribute to positive change, we want to hear from you.
Diversity & Inclusion: We celebrate diversity and encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds. We particularly welcome candidates from underrepresented groups, including Black, Asian, LGBT+, neurodiverse, and disabled individuals.
Agile Working: We believe in flexibility and trust in our employees. Our focus is on performance, not presenteeism, and we support agile working practices.
