Job Purpose
As a technically competent person you will support the company in fulfilling its Regulations, Policies, Procedures (Environmental Management Systems) and external accreditations (ISO14001) for a limited number of sites across the asset base as part of a team of ERAs.
This is achieved by delivering specialist waste, permitting and environmental advice to improve and maintain environmental Regulatory compliance, reduce carbon emissions through minimisation, re-use and recycling of waste and increase business efficiencies, for example by optimising energy through waste including CHP.
Job Accountabilities
- Undertaking site inspections and audits in accordance with business needs (including maintaining ISO 14001 Accreditation) and Regulatory requirements (including IED, EPR (Waste & Installations), Exemptions, Duty of Care, etc.)
- Providing specialist environmental technical expertise to their defined area (and other business areas as required)
- An in depth knowledge of site specific waste and installation permits in the role holders defined area and ensure all requirements are being met.
- Raising and tracking site specific environmental non-conformance on the company recognised system.
- Participating as a key stakeholder for the business in the permit application and variation process.
- Participating as a key stakeholder for the business in the Post Incident Review (PIR) process following a Regulatory non-conformance.
- Maintaining a good working relationship with their local EA officers.
Knowledge and Skills
To be successful in this role you'll need a degree/ diploma in an appropriate subject, together with good knowledge and understanding of Wastewater business practices, techniques, policies and operational activities. You'll need to be willing to obtain the CIWM professionally acknowledged WAMITAB NVQ level 4 qualification and maintain continued competence through biennial external examinations. You'll also have:
- Good knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation and environmental permitting.
- Ability to remain impartial when undertaking inspections.
- Understanding and ability to interpret all permit requirements.
- Ability to work autonomously in a wide geographical area and also to work well as part of a regionally based team.
- Excellent influencing skills to influence site teams in complex situations.
- Efficient time management and organisational skills – able to work to deadlines and achieve objectives.
- Knowledge of Business Management Systems e.g. SAP, Airline, STS and SCADA.
- IT literacy and competency in the use of Microsoft packages i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- A full and valid driving licence is essential.
- Good understanding of Wastewater & sludge treatment processes and permitting requirements.
- Previous experience of environmental auditing
