Riding Lights Theatre Company is looking for a new Executive Director to join us as we move into a new phase of the company’s life.

Riding Lights is one of the UK’s most productive and long-established independent theatre companies, founded in 1977 and based at Friargate Theatre, the company’s home in York city centre.

From small scale and community venues to regional and West End theatres, Riding Lights has carved out a reputation for powerful theatre with a spiritual heart, balancing new writing with classic plays.

The Executive Director will work with the new Artistic Director in joint leadership of the company. Both Directors will share a considered, innovative, and resilient vision for an exciting future for the company, growing from our rich past and core ethos. The Executive Director will lead in administrative and financial areas, driving forward business and future planning, and overseeing the management of our productions, operations, venue, and team.

Like all arts and cultural organisations, we face challenges in the current economic climate, and the Executive Director will have a keen business acumen and be confident in identifying areas and opportunities for growth, to ensure the financial sustainability of the organisation.

If you’re our new Executive Director, you will be resilient, bold and innovative. You will be ambitious for the company, motivating staff and working to foster a culture of collaboration. You will have energetic approaches to income generation and increasing Membership.  You will be as committed as we are to the communities we serve, and you will play a key role in continuing to broaden our reach, representing the company as you build relationships with stakeholders in business, politics, faith organisations and the media as well as artists, partners and audiences.
