About us The MetaLab at University College London is a cognitive neuroscience group based at the Department of Experimental Psychology and the Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging (https://metacoglab.org). About the role This post is funded by EPSRC Programme Grant “From Sensing to Collaboration: Engineering, Exploring and Exploiting the Building Blocks of Embodied Intelligence” held by Prof. Stephen Fleming at UCL in collaboration with the Oxford Robotics Institute (ORI) at the University of Oxford. The project will combine behavioural experiments, state-of-the-art neuroimaging techniques, theoretical and computational models, and analysis of human-machine interactions to investigate the mechanisms underpinning human metacognition (including confidence and uncertainty estimates) in social environments. The postholder will undertake high-quality research combining novel experiments on human participants with theoretical models of how metacognition contributes to human-machine interactions. The post is available from 1st September 2024 and is funded by an EPSRC grant for 1 year in the first instance. Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not th e case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B salary with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis. For queries about the application process, please contact- About you You should hold a PhD in computational/cognitive neuroscience, cognitive science, experimental psychology, or a related field. Proficiency in MATLAB for statistical data analysis is essential, with experience in using a variety of computational modeling and data analysis tools desirable. Experience in recruiting and conducting behavioral testing with adults is necessary, alongside a background in applying machine learning techniques to fMRI, MEG, and/or behavioral data. Candidates should also have experience in developing and managing platforms for online data collection and fitting computational models to behavioural data. They must be able to work independently, have strong problem-solving skills, and have a keen interest in conducting high-quality research on human-machine interactions.
