AddressDESIblitz.com, UK’s leading online British South Asian lifestyle publication, is looking to strengthen its online editorial output and we are seeking an individual eager to join our team to add value to our content.
You will be a driven Features Editor and Content Writer possessing the eye to seek out relevant feature articles, that will appeal to our niche audience.
Keen to produce and excel in results, you will proactively develop and apply audience research to produce content which will engage readers. Especially, targeting British South Asian audiences.
As an editor, you will be responsible for categories and their required content. These include British Asian lifestyle, arts and culture, music, dance, and sport.
You will have the ability to produce compelling weekly feature articles for your categories to meet our publication needs, following our house style and publishing standards.
You should be creatively equipped to produce journalistic-led features which appeal to the UK British South Asian audiences and the diaspora globally.
Having the ability to research and editorially find suitable UK and South Asian news of a serious, entertainment or lifestyle nature is also an important aspect of this role.
A strong understanding of proofreading and editing UK English is essential for this role.
You will help develop new feature writers on our development programme to support your categories and content output.
A realistic appreciation of the 24-hour online publication life cycle and the pressures that come with this kind of work environment is necessary.
You will be keen to use AI tools to assist you with your daily workflow and tasks, to enhance your daily productivity.
By using our social media channels, you will distribute your daily content to engage social followers by creating promotional posts for your content and applying creativity to engage and grow followers.
Your enthusiasm, innovative attitude and communication skills will be tested by the confidence you show in taking ownership of this role.
Any prior online publishing experience teamed with having responsibility for making publishing decisions is very desirable for this role.
Key Requirements & Responsibilities
- Produce daily features for your categories based on our schedule.
- For features, produce original content using journalistic approaches e.g. via public interaction, focused research and investigative reporting
- Take editorial ownership of five publication categories and their respective feature articles with proactive and innovative approaches to produce engaging content for our audience
- Source and publish one daily news story (Mon-Sun) using social media and reliable sources.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, time management and good teamwork qualities
- Maximise the benefits of applicable technologies for both content and audience
- Utilising AI tools to expedite your workflow and generate audience-matching content within timescales to further grow our audience.
- Ensure the accuracy of facts and reliability of sources for news stories
- Produce relevant and correctly sized images for the feature/news articles - using photo editing tools
- Write strong catchy headlines which are appealing and drive traffic
- Maintaining impeccable UK grammar and punctuation skills
- Use tools like Canva and other tools to create promotional social media posts to increase engagement and growth
- Learn or know how to utilise analytics and reports to review content and improve output
- Work with the senior editor to develop an ongoing content strategy to promote the growth
- Attend weekly online editorial meetings and provide reports on content engagement
- Provide publishing support and development for new feature writers on our development programme
- Proactively communicate ways to improve and engage higher readership of our content
- Be representative of the brand in an editorial capacity if and when required e.g., through interviews, social media videos etc.
- Understanding of legal and editorial standards such as the UK Editors’ Code of Practice, media and copyright law
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven ability to think quickly and react to the needs of a fast online content environment
- Understanding of targeting features content to our specific audience
- Experience of working under pressure in an editorial role with complete ownership
- Experience of using WordPress or other CMS
- Any experience of using AI tools for content research and development
- Ability to crop, adjust and edit images and photos - basic Photoshop abilities.
- Ability to use tools such as Canva, Adobe Express etc.
- Knowledge of social media tools - TikTok, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook
- Qualified to a degree level - within a relevant field is desirable but not essential
- A high standard of written UK English and outstanding writing, research and writing skills
- Excellent organisation and communication skills
- A can-do attitude without any hesitation or excuses
- A desire to learn, develop and excel further as part of the brand and team
