Job Description
Summary
I am an 82 year old lady, with dementia symptoms, who requires some personal support each day.
I used to play bowls and enjoy watching sport on the tv. I also love my garden and like to help out with maintaining it during the summer.
I need support with making a hot drink, preparing a cooked lunch, taking daily medication (tablet) and household tasks.
I may require support with some personal care tasks.
I have a small, friendly dog, - you will be required to take out for approx. 30 minute walk each work day (subject to weather conditions).
Experience preferred but commonsense and initiative are also very important with this role.
Candidate qualities:
Female due to personal care needs
A non-smoker or willing to refrain from smoking at work
Must be comfortable with dogs
Respectful of the employer’s privacy and confidentiality
Reliable with good time-keeping
Able to bring commonsense, follow instructions and work on own initiative
Hygienic, tidy and well organised
Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
Honest and cheerful
Creative
Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
Legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom
Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
Employee Duties:
Laundry and general cleaning and tidying, particularly the kitchen. The client is able to help with washing up.
Taking out rubbish
Minor household maintenance e.g. changing light bulbs.
Preparing hot drinks, snacks and meals.
Pet care – giving the dog a 30 minute walk each session (subject to weather conditions)
Assistance with applying cream
General hair/skin care
Assistance with medication i.e. dispensing, administering and/or prompting
Encouragement with eating/drinking and I require frequent reminders that both myself and the dog have been fed.
The need for any social care/support is not envisaged due to the time of day the work will be undertaken. However, exceptionally, there may be a requirement to go to the local shop either with or without the client to purchase a small item e.g. pint of milk.

Please note, if you are successful in your application for this position you will be employed directly by the individual employer and not Independent Lives. Successful applicants will be entitled to Holiday pay and will be issued employment contracts.
