Finance Assistant

Monday to Friday (37.5 hours)

We are proud to be supporting The Mercury Theatre, a vibrant, welcoming artistic hub at the heart of the cultural life of Colchester. The team are looking to hire a Finance Assistant to support the smooth running of the finance department. This is an amazing opportunity to immerse yourself in a varied role surrounded by a friendly team and wonderful support system.
You will be reporting to the Finance Manager for duties and queries.
Your main responsibilities would be:

• To maintain the accurate and timely usage of all finance systems and spreadsheets - inputting data, processing invoices, cash handling, bank reconciliations
• Complete purchase and sales ledger transactions whilst keeping a record
• Taking responsibility for petty cash disbursements, BACS payment
• Assist with weekly/monthly payroll processing as required
• Responding to correspondence on behalf of the Finance Department
• Assist with cash handling, float reconciliation

The ideal candidate would have:

• A background in finance and a good understanding of payroll, sales and purchase ledger functions
• Confident ability to use online systems and spreadsheets within a paperless filing system
• Great pride in their work and good sense of humour
• Inquisitive and insightful questions or suggestions for the team
• An interest in the theatre (desirable)
