I am currently recruiting on behalf of a growing medium sized business in the construction industry, based near Wolverhampton that has an excellent culture and team ethos.

My client is looking for a qualified financial accountant with a few years PQE, ACA/ACCA/ICAS/CIMA to come into a key Financial Accounting/Finance Controller role. You will most likely have qualified in a large firm and be either looking for your first move out of accountancy practice, or potentially have already spent some time post qualification in industry, most likely in a financial accounting role. This is a hybrid working role.

The Finance Controller is principally responsible for ensuring all statutory reporting requirements are delivered for the company, controls are maintained over balance sheets, and all tax and other returns are completed to a high standard and to deadlines. The role-holder will also assist the Finance Director as required to ensure the smooth running of the financial accounting function and manage and deliver ad hoc projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of year end packs, statutory accounts preparation, year-end audit and being main point of contact with the auditors.
• Responsible for ensuring all UK tax returns are completed on time and to a high quality.
• VAT accounting including partial exemption calculation.
• Weekly cashflow - assisting with cash management and working capital management.
• Management of the ledger and payroll teams, and management accountant
• Personnel management of your teams including setting and following through on 6 monthly goals and achievements.
• Management and improvement of finance processes.
• Capital expenditure tracking and forecasting including maintenance of the fixed asset module.
• Provide accurate, timely and useful analysis as required for decision making.
• Balance sheet reconciliations.
• Working across boundaries, showing flexibility to ensure all financial accounting responsibilities are delivered, including supporting colleagues in other finance areas as required.
• Identifying, agreeing and delivering improvement projects to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the financial accounting function.

The successful candidate will be a pro-active self-starter who grasps opportunities and takes action, actively influencing events. You will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, ICAS, CIMA).
