Job description

At Connection Support, our team of 200 staff members and 150 volunteers work alongside people to overcome life’s challenges, with the goals of solving homelessness and achieving independence.

We do this through our values of empowerment, collaboration, compassion and taking a personalised approach in all aspects of our work. Our projects are focussed on homelessness and housing, mental health, family support, young peoples’ support, and refugee resettlement.

We are currently recruiting for a Finance Manager to work as part of the Finance Management team.

About the role.

This post will play a vital role in strengthening the delivery of our services. You will oversee financial data and controls, ensure financial records are maintained, provide technical expertise including knowledge of Charities SORP, ensure we are compliant with legislative requirements, support and provide advice on budgets, and assist in preparing quarter and annual year-end accounts.

In addition, you will be responsible for line managing 2 – 3 team members including supervision, appraisals, induction, training and ensuring they receive support, empowerment and encouragement to meet their personal development goals. You will work proactively with colleagues across our organisation to ensure that financial processes and systems are understood.

This is permanent post, working between 30 - 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday. We are also open to discussion on flexible working opportunities.

Salary between £38,388 to £41,434 per annum, pro rata, dependent on experience.

This post benefits from Hybrid working, visiting the office at least once a month. A driver’s licence and access to a vehicle is not essential, but the ability to visit our offices in Oxford, Milton Keynes, and Buckinghamshire is essential.

About you.

Your professional experience includes at least 3 years of working in a responsible supervisory finance role. You will be fully, or part qualified as an accountant, or qualified by experience with at least a good understanding of double entry accounting.

You will have experience in using accountancy software to manage bookkeeping and prepare reports, knowledge of financial controls with the ability to develop new controls, a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office IT Systems especially Excel, and technical accounting expertise, including a good understanding of the principles of the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice.

Your strong communication skills, alongside your experience of supervising the work of others, allows you to employ your financial skills with enthusiasm and build positive relationships that strengthens the work of the finance team.
