The Finance team is responsible for full financial control of EDF Trading Group business. Financial control includes: ownership of all financial control processes; financial accounting in accordance with relevant accounting standards (IFRS, FRS 101); management and statutory reporting on all EDF Trading group entities; financial planning and analysis (budget and forecast), support for business transactions, and financial support to the business and management via full and detailed knowledge of business processes and models.
Position purpose
The role will work within the Financial Reporting & Analysis team, responsible for financial control of the consolidated EDF Trading Group.
Main responsibilities
The role will work in coordination with other members of the Finance team across a range of tasks:
- Monthly, quarterly and annual accounting processes and reporting for EDF Trading Group and subsidiaries including:
- Accounting entries
- Reviewing data to identify possible errors, and reconciliation to source systems where possible.
- Intercompany processes and Consolidation
- Preparation and checking financial statements for reporting
- Analysis of performance (e.g. variance analysis vs. budget, written commentary)
- Detailed analysis and reporting of other financial data and metrics (e.g. overhead cost analysis, CAPEX, working capital and return on capital, cash flow)
- Reviewing data posted by external systems and other departments for reasonableness and identifying possible errors
- Preparation of management reports, and periodic financial presentations
- Answering stakeholder questions and providing additional ad-hoc analysis
- Involvement in preparation of annual budget and mid-term plan, and periodic re-forecasting.
- Involvement in preparation of EDFT Group Statutory Accounts
- Assist in other periodic and ad hoc Finance projects (finance and accounting support for commercial transactions, acquisitions, disposals, senior management requests etc.)
- Assist in projects to improve internal processes and controls
- Experience of periodic financial processes (e.g. financial “close” processes, budgeting and forecasting).
- Experience of Management Reporting and / or associated analysis.
- Experience of accounting for financial instruments (IAS39/, IFRS13), consolidation accounting (IFRS10,11,12), and statutory reporting (IFRS) (beneficial)
- Experience using the Hyperion [HFM] consolidation system (beneficial)
- Experience using Workday (beneficial)
- Experience within the Financial Services or Commodities industries would be beneficial but is not a necessity.
- Sound accounting knowledge (balance sheet structure, core accounting principles, ability to identify and interpret relevant standards)
- A good understanding of financial principles, processes and controls, and the purpose of financial and management reporting
- Confident in the use of Excel for manipulating data, with advanced Excel skills (complex formulae: INDEX-MATCH, VLOOKUP, etc.)
- Able to juggle multiple tasks continuously while also prioritising effectively
- A natural problem solver, with the ability to proactively tackle a variety of problems (process and technical problems)
- Responsive – able to react to urgent requirements and comfortable working within tight timescales
- Good communication skills (written and verbal) with a meticulous attitude to work, demonstrated by in depth analysis with detailed workings, leading to clear and concise explanations
- Able to work effectively in a team environment
- Be able to self motivate and foresee problems and look to solve them before they occur
