The Role
As a Financial Control and Governance Lead, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Joining a team that is there to underpin a robust and proportionate Financial Control environment. Controls within remit include reporting, operational (including bids and contract reviews) and compliance controls. The team acts as a second line of defence in relation to material Financial Controls, to facilitate the Audit Committee's responsibility in reviewing the effectiveness of key material controls including fraud, and to manage the external auditors testing of those controls.
Day to day, you'll be responsible for leading control walkthroughs to provide risk leads with feedback on the design effectiveness of current controls and recommendations to enhance control design. Control walkthrough plan agreed annually, to continually target areas of financial reporting and transaction risk and deliver alignment with UK Corporate Reform requirements:
- Programme management of the internal control roadmap, engaging with wide ranging stakeholders, with regular reporting of steps, timeline, status and risks. Reporting is also required to be presented to the Audit Committee 4 times per annum.
- Deliver control enhancements in line with the internal control roadmap, working closely with Finance Systems and process owners to achieve a sustainable desired enhancement.
- Provide second line of defence assurance of Financial Controls including review of balance sheet reconciliation controls, reviewing Blueprint Fundamental control operation and evidence, and further sampled key reporting controls.
- Ownership of the Document of Controls and related attestation process, including monitoring of identified actions and creation of reporting to key internal stakeholders and the Audit Committee.
This role is a full-time position that is contracted 37.5 hours a week and will be based at our Lonodn site, with hybrid working from home arrangements. There is a requirement, for attending face-to-face meetings and / or delivering business across a range of internal and customer sites.

Essential Experience of the Financial Control and Governance Lead:
- Demonstratable experience of audit, risk and control testing experience.
- Proactive mind set in understanding the current controls and processes, and related business requirements.
- Analytical thinking, sound judgement and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Experience in the Defence or similar, sector will be of added advantage but, not essential.
Qualifications for the Financial Control and Governance Lead:
- You must hold a recopgnised, professional qualification (ACCA, ACA, ACMA, CIMA, ICAEW, ICAS) or equivalent / similar.
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
