Financial Controller

This is a fantastic career opportunity for a qualified accountant to join a successful and growing not for profit organisation as their Financial Controller. You will work closely with the Finance Business Partner and other finance team members to oversee the day to day running of the finance department. This role requires an individual with strong technical accounting skills and an SME /Consultancy background.

This role only requires you to work 4 days per week, which you can do remotely or in a hybrid format.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Oversee the day to day running of the finance function working closely with the Finance Business Partner
• Review and manage supplier costs and payment
• Oversee billing and debtor management
• Prepare and present monthly financial reports and management reports to the leadership team
• Lead on month end and year end process
• Manage quarterly VAT submissions and oversee year end VAT apportionment and annual corporation tax payment
• Manage bank and oversee cash investments
• Prepare monthly payroll ensuring calculations for salaries and pensions are accurate
• Support business planning and strategy cycles by preparing budget and scenario planning
• Manage relationships with external stakeholders including advisers, HMRC and banks
• Liaise with external auditors for annual audit

Skills & knowledge required

• Strong SME financial management background and an understanding of the workings of a consultancy.
• Track record of successful leadership of a finance function
• An understanding of multi-year project accounting and management of deferred income
• Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Xero
• An understanding of grant funding is advantageous
• A good problem solver with experience in simplifying complex financial concepts
• Confident in self-management, working independently and across all levels
• Credible communicator able to balance empathy with positive challenge
• Qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
