European Financial Controller

This tech IT solutions client is a c$20m operation of a $500m US tech business. With operations across Europe, this role will report initially to the European Finance Director but does have scope for advancement to the No.1 UK role.
A hands on role ensuring accounting is conducted in accordance with company policies and procedures, managing monthly payrolls, admin of VAT and other taxes.
The position has one direct report with day-to-day AR and AP activities.
Across mainland Europe, there a multiple smaller operations and this role has responsibility for managing relationships with the firms of accountants who they use for local bookkeeping.
This position represents a key point of contact between external operations and the headquarters function for queries relating to payroll, company policies etc.
Based within a small head office function. Accordingly personal characteristics are considered particularly important in this instance. In particular they value good communications skills with a confident, professional and friendly approach.
This is a hands on role requiring very much a 'can-do' work value approach.
The Role
Accounting and control:
- A diligent, precise and mature approach is required - ensuring actuals data is consistently reliable, transparent and consistent with expectations. The role requires that the candidate will develop an understanding of the underlying business and to ensure that the monthly financial data properly reflects this.
- Managing all aspects of the G/L cycle including the monthly close process, including intercompany eliminations, in line with the corporate timetable.
- Managing relationships with our bookkeeping partners and developing an understanding of local accounting and tax regulations. The candidate will also be responsible for overseeing of AP, AR and payroll for our European sister companies.
- Ensuring that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and analysed on a monthly basis. Also to ensure that all issues are resolved or escalated quickly.
- Ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures and being involved on enhancements in these areas.
- Ensuring that VAT and other taxes are properly managed and remitted to tax authorities within deadlines.
- Responsible for liaising with our auditors in the UK and US.
Payroll
- Processes must be maintained that ensures very high levels of accuracy and employee satisfaction.
- Ensure consistent application of company policies.
- Ensure payroll deductions are remitted to tax authorities, pension providers etc in a timely manner.
Other
- Generally supporting the business managers.
- Professional Qualifications essential
- Oracle ERP system to Oracle Fusion experience will provide a distinct advantage.
- Payroll, across a number of countries, is a critical component of the role so experience in this area is a requirement.
- Familiarity with ADP payroll would be advantageous
- A working knowledge VAT is essential.
- Experience in the use of MS Office applications, in particular Excel and Word, is assumed.
