Job Summary:
- Assist the Fire Safety Manager with all fire related issues.
- Responsible for technical and general Fire Safety Advice, completion of detailed fire risk assessments in accordance with HTM05 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order 2005, including the provision of Fire Safety training
Responsibilities:
Technical and regulatory
- Ensure standards of fire prevention and safety are maintained.
- Ensure that fire precautions meet the standards set out in documents issued by the Department of Health and with other statutory requirements and recommendations of relevant code of practice.
- Provide advice on structural fire protection and safety for existing and new buildings and proposed alterations to buildings.
- Undertake fire risk assessments in all premises.
- Prepare reports and prioritise action plans following risk assessments which requires the analysis and comparison of a range of options
- Implement the proposals outlined in the action plan and/or assist in the co-ordination/implementation of the action plan.
- Undertake an annual re-assessment of Fire Safety risks, or more frequently, as required.
- Review new fire legislation and regulations and, where necessary, provide briefing notes and procedures for comment/approval to Fire Safety group
Training
- Responsible for matters relating to Fire Safety training and awareness
- Provide and deliver a comprehensive Fire Safety training programme for all employees. Ensure the training needs of all staff are addressed
- Provide and deliver specialist training for staff designated under the Fire policy
- Develop an integrated working arrangement with the Fire and Rescue service to include familiarisation and participation in joint exercise training events
- Record and monitor accurate records of staff training ensuring these are provided to training department, highlighting any areas of concern
- Assist the TFSM to achieve 90% fire training compliance and above
- Organise and deliver annual Fire warden and fire response training maintaining a register of all attendees
- Working with emergency planning department set up regular evacuation of personnel area drills
Equipment
- Ensure that all fire-fighting equipment is maintained and available for use at all times.
- Monitor fire contractors to ensure such equipment is maintained correctly.
- Organise testing of equipment as required ensuring fully operational. This shall include fire alarms and detectors, extinguishers, emergency lighting, etc.
Essential Qualifications/Experience:
·Fire engineering/ Engineering science, or fire /Fire Safety degree; or extensive experience and knowledge in Fire Safety
·Certificate in training practice or extensive experience of preparing and delivering training.
Membership of a professional organisation
·Experience of undertaking fire risk assessments.
·Experience of preparing and delivering training courses.
