Job description 1
Protecting and adapting our communities to impacts from climate change is of growing importance. Don’t miss a great opportunity to join the South Humber and East Coast Partnerships and Strategic Overview (SHEC PSO) team. You can help make a difference by helping to protect people, businesses and the wider community from the complex threats posed by river and tidal flooding.
We will provide you with on-the-job opportunities to develop your skills across a wide variety of flood related technical skills, with possible access to higher education or apprenticeships. Working closely with colleagues, other teams and organisations, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:
  • Collection, analysis and interpretation of data
  • Flood risk mapping
  • Working closely with customers and partners
  • Taking part in incident management when flooding occurs
  • Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team 1
The SHEC PSO Team work with and support local Risk Management Authorities and communities to design, develop and deliver flood risk management assets to reduce flood risk. We compile, manage, and use the best available evidence through our mapping, modelling and data work to inform our long-term plans and investment programme. We provide advice on Flood Risk Assessments for development proposals and issue Flood Risk Activity Permits.
Experience/skills required 1
We are looking for a person who is proactive, with the ability to learn and develop skills quickly and have an eye for detail. Through your experience you will demonstrate:
  • A general understanding of the causes and impacts of flooding.
  • The ability to develop and maintain good relationships with customers.
  • A working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) (preferred, training will be given)
  • Delivery of work by planning and prioritising your workload.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills to deal with a diverse range of people.
  • Flexible to the needs of the organisation and open to new ways of working.
  • A positive and adaptable attitude, who responds well to constructive feedback.
Contact and additional information 1
You will be part of a diverse and inclusive organisation which takes pride in welcoming applicants from all sections of the community.
Everyone starting in a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into our teams and be given all of the training and support needed to succeed.
We offer an extensive range of employee benefits; including fully funded opportunities to develop further academic/professional qualifications.
