FULL TIME PERMANENT SCIENTIST WORKING IN A POULTRY LABORATORY
Newbridge Scientific run a new state of the art UKAS accredited laboratory the role will be to provide a comprehensive laboratory service including sample processing, analysis and reporting results for poultry and other species related samples.
Main Duties will include
- Sample receipt and submission to external laboratories
- Sample preparation
- Performing a range of serological tests including but not limited to: ELISA, HI and RSA testing
- To be a point of contact for any laboratory queries regarding samples, tests and results
- Parasitology and microscopy to include faecal worm egg counts
- Bacteriology; setting up culture plates from a range of samples to test Salmonella and Bioburden tests
- Hygiene screening on water and bedding samples
- Produce written reports for the laboratory using Microsoft packages and other specific laboratory systems
- All aspects of media preparation and quality control testing on prepared plates and broths
- Create and maintain stock levels within the laboratory
- Stock control and ordering of consumables and reagents
- Equipment maintenance, calibration and cleaning
- General housekeeping duties within the laboratory
- Maintain clean and tidy working areas at all times
- Undertake CPD as required
- Under Health & Safety at Work Act, whilst at work, you must take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of any other who may be affected by your acts or omissions
Special conditions
The role involves handling animal tissue, blood and faecal samples
The role involves working with reagents
Essential Qualification
A degree in Biological sciences or related subject
Essential Skills and abilities
Good interpersonal skills
Excellent organisational and planning skills
Ability to communicate effectively through various mediums and to different levels of staff
Good administration and IT skills
Knowledge of routine testing requirements in Laboratory (Salmonella, Bioburden etc) is desirable
This role will be predominately working Tuesday to Saturday between the hours of 9am and 5:30pm with occasional weekend cover as and when required
