This role is based in our Manchester office with a requirement to be in the office several times a week.
The difference you'll make
The Technical department at In The Style supports the Buying and Design teams to ensure product fit and quality is in line with our brand strategy and values and is compliant in all markets/ channels in which we trade. This is achieved through a strong Buying team, Design team and Supplier relations, strong commercial awareness and application is essential for this role. As Garment Tech, you are accountable for the delivery of our technical requirements for specific product ranges. Application of your excellent knowledge of fit, product construction, manufacturing, performance and safety requirements as well as your awareness of market and industry trends will ensure management of risk in product and/ or production and that delivered product meets ITS standards. Strong relationships with your counterparts in the Product and CSR teams enables alignment with the business priorities.
Your most important tasks
- Work with Commercial (Buying & Design teams) to ensure all styles are sealed on time (according to critical path)
- Leading the fit session, overseeing the fit meeting schedule and on-time delivery of samples to the pre-defined critical path
- Ensuring workbooks are created and issued to suppliers in a timely manner and fit comments are issued in line with the critical path and agreed SLAs
- Ownership of returns and preparation for regular returns reviews, understanding of key returns reasons and proposals for reductions of returns risk going forward

- Build and maintain strong internal and external networks to develop broad perspective and identify future opportunities.
- Maintain knowledge of current and changing global legislation and ensure implementation into our product.
- Develop excellent Supplier Relationships to ensure understanding of and commitment to delivery of ITS standards
- Understand technical capabilities/limitations of Suppliers and supply chain to optimise delivered quality and minimise risk to production/ delivery.
- Collaborate with suppliers to establish realistic action plans that enable improvement to delivered standards.
- Support Sourcing to facilitate smooth on-boarding process with minimal risk to the business of new suppliers and factories, in line with defined criteria.
- Provide Buying /Merchandise teams with supporting information required in negotiations for losses arising out of poor fit, quality or non-compliance.
- Contribution to the supplier scorecard process ensuring the Product team are aware of weakness in the existing supply base and opportunities for mitigation of risk.
- Sustainability provide support to the Head of CSR in the delivery of the business strategy
How yourimpact will be measured
- Focussing on continuous improvement, establish and maintain fit and quality standards in line with customer expectations. Consistency across the company is required in order to ensure customer confidence and that unnecessary customer returns are minimised.
- In conjunction with Finance set targets by category for each of our product categories and regularly review with product teams to improve and understand reasons for failure
- Introduce minimum make standards with our supply base to improve the consistency of our fit and quality
Knowledge, skills and experience
- A proven track record of setting and achieving quality standards, appropriate to a fast fashion brand
- Working at pace with accuracy is essential.
- A solid knowledge of garment construction.
- A firm understanding of grading for core and specialist size clothing
- Organised and efficient ability to multi-task and prioritise.
- Organisational skills with experience of working to critical deadlines.
- Good communication skills with experience of liaising with a range of suppliers and other partners.
- Experience of working within a team.
- Good office and administration skills, MS office/ excel proficient
