Entry requirements
You should already hold or be working towards a minimum of 2 GCSE’s Grade A* - C or Grade 4 and above including Maths and English language
Plus 3 A-Levels in any subject at grade A* - C or equivalent.
You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject or have already studied content from the qualification for this scheme.
Please note that you will be required to provide original certificates and/or predicted grades as proof for your eligibility checks.
You must be 18 years of age before the start date(11th September) to be eligible for this scheme.
Please be advised that should you be successful in getting an offer for this scheme, your offer will be subject to a satisfactory medical which may include but is not limited to: drugs and alcohol screening, eye test and hearing test.

Sustainability

During the Apprenticeship scheme, you will complete Carbon Literacy training and can become a trainer yourself. You’ll also be able to complete placements that help deliver our Green strategy and ensure TfL is a strong, green heartbeat for London.
What will I be doing?
As an apprentice, your four year development programme will be made up of up to 4 placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career.
Your two-year development programme will be made up of up to four placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for a successful career. We also understand that everyone’s career is different, so every Apprentice’s journey is unique.
The scheme structure is as follows:
- You will start with a 4-week operational placement on London Underground
- This is followed by a 6-month office-based placement that is arranged for you
- You will then have a 4-week surface operational placement, such as working on river boats or supporting our policing colleagues to ensure the security of our network
Your first and second placement is assigned by your Apprenticeship Sponsor. Here are some examples of business areas previous Apprentices have had placements:

You will have the flexibility to tailor your third and fourth year placements to match the areas of the business you are interested in. Your final placement will take place alongside a compulsory research project that will explore a business improvement which could support your dissertation.
- Where can this career take me?
- Upon successful completion of this scheme, you could become as a Customer Service Manager or an Assistant Business Strategy Planner, which could lead to further career development opportunities such as Trains Operation Manager or Business Strategy Manager.
- On completion of the scheme, you will obtain a Level 6 Chartership as a Chartered Manager and a Degree in Business Management
What training and support will you get?
Our award-winning teams will support your ongoing development, through a wide range of on-the-job practical experience and placements. We'll support your professional development through a combination of training, mentoring, and networking. We’ll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences. We’ll also support your professional development through a combination of mentoring, networking with scheme alumni and a qualification in Project Management.
To help you achieve your leadership potential, each Apprentice is supported by a:
- Placement manager on each placement responsible for your day-to-day management
- Buddy from previous cohorts of Apprentices to welcome you to the organisation
- Development advisor from HR who supports your career progression at TfL
- Sponsor to discuss your performance and wellbeing throughout your scheme

About Transport for London
