We are representing an expanding recycling business who are the market leader in their area. Due to the extra work load they are seeking a General Manager (Transport), to run the transport for their Skips operation from their Leicester site.
The Role - General Manager (Transport)
The role of General Manager (Transport) is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking business. You will be providing leadership and direction to the whole transport operation. Running an efficient, profitable operation that also provides an outstanding customer experience.
Other Responsibilities include:
- Managing a team consisting of 2 transport managers, a fleet manager, 80 staff and a sizeable budget.
- Working on projects to improve transport efficiency.
- P&L responsibility for the Skips operation.
- Seeking improvements in the staff through appropriate training and coaching.
- Identifying new areas to improve revenue and reduce costs. Acting with a commercial mind-set whenever possible.
- The safe operation of all Transport activities ensuring compliance with H&S legislation & safe systems of work.
- Ensuring legal compliance to the Traffic Commissioners Operating Licenses.
- Ensuring that the delivered service to the relevant transit points is provided and targets are achieved.
- Working closely with the other areas of the operation to ensure SLA's are achieved.
- Ensure regular and effective communication methods / mechanisms are developed.
- Hold the O license for the site.
- Fully accountable for the day to day running of the transport department.

Monday to Friday - 08:00 - 17:30
The Skills Required
The ideal candidate will have performed already in a General Manager (Transport) role before for a similar business. They will also have skills and experiences clearly demonstrated in their CV in the following:
- National & International CPC qualified.
- Have managed managers, budgets and staff in the past successfully, clearly on their CV.
- Ideally have managed a Skips or business waste collection operation elsewhere.
- Managed a multi-drop transport operation, ideally within the aggregates, recycling, or construction industry for a minimum of 2 years.
- Demonstrate both a commercially focused and client focused operating style.
- To have outstanding leadership qualities with excellent influencing and interpersonal skills.
- Have an analytical and long-term approach to the operation.
- The ability to identify, lead and manage a project from start to finish.
- Ideally Prince 2 or 6 Sigma qualified.
