Job description

We are seeking a suitably qualified candidate for this exciting opportunity as a Geospacial Information Specialistin Tides working for a world leading centre for hydrography and bathymetry.  The organisation work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners to support maritime navigation, safety, security and marine development around the UK and worldwide.
Geospacial Information Specialist (GIS) in Tides - Role Overview

  • The role is fully remote home-based working
  • Very flexible working hours
  • You would be expected to attend Head office for the first few weeks of employment for initial training
  • After which attendance would only be necessary if or when required
  • Be responsible the analysis and processing of tidal survey data into a range of databases for onward use in products and services
  • Be responsible for updating the tides databases and data management processes
  • Validate and verify the tidal deliverables of hydrographic ‘Reports of Survey’ (ROS)
  • Have the opportunity to carry out development and testing of data/systems and work with other Tides subject matter experts
  • Be responsible for maintaining and updating processes and documentation for Tides
  • The post holder will take the lead on such work and engage with large groups of stakeholders from across the business
  • Participation in presentations and technical discussions on tide-related subjects
  • Responding to enquiries from professionals in the maritime industry and other related disciplines

Geospacial Information Specialist (GIS) in Tides – Candidate Requirements

  • A degree in a related discipline e.g. Marine Geography, Coastal Engineering, Hydrography or other related discipline
  • We are looking for someone with knowledge of tidal theory, tidal analysis, and tidal computations, understanding of vertical reference datums, knowledge of hydrographic surveying practises, techniques, and equipment functionality (such as tide gauges and current meters)
  • Computer programming skills in Python/R is desirable but not essential
  • Technical expertise within the tidal science domain, how you apply this to the development and continual improvement of processes, technologies and tools, and the stewardship of tidal data
  • Demonstration of applying tidal knowledge to assess data and recommend actions
  • You must be a UK resident

Geospacial Information Specialist (GIS) in Tides - Benefits Package

  • A starting salary of £35,744 per annum
  • 35.5 days’ holiday per year (inc. Bank Holidays) rising to 40.5 days per year after 5 years
  • Can accrue up to an extra 2 days’ holiday every month
