Job description


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the small but highly skilled GI Physiology Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals.
As a Clinical Physiologist/healthcare scientist you will be required to perform highly complex, specialised diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including invasive intubation techniques.
You will be working within a small team to deliver upper GI investigations including, high resolution oesophageal manometry, 24-hour pH studies, hydrogen and methane breath testing and urea breath tests. You will undertake the interpretation of results, provision of reports and advice to patients.
You will partake in meetings with other healthcare professionals working collaboratively and co-operatively on a day-to-day basis with others to ensure that the service needs are met.
As you will be working within a small team you will be at times required to contribute to the day-to-day running of the department in the absence of the Service Manager.
JOB SUMMARY

• Work according to relevant professional standards and guidelines.
• Have accreditation or be eligible for accreditation (if not already) for Association of GI Physiologists (AGIP).
• Have membership for the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP) or equivalent.
• Prioritise, plan, perform and interpret a range of Gastrointestinal Physiological investigations.
• Have an empathetic and reassuring manner to gain patient consent and support patients during uncomfortable and sometimes daunting investigations.
• Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to ensure services meet changing healthcare needs.
• Undertake simple fault remedies, cleaning and maintenance of equipment and ensure these are in good working order, reporting faults to the Service Manager where necessary.
• Provide support and assistance to other staff members when dealing with difficult and conflicting situations
Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was established on December 1, 2007 under the National Health Service (NHS) Act 2006. In October 2010, the Trust was awarded Teaching Hospitals status and changed its named to Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in recognition of this. On April 1, 2012, the Trust merged with the community health services of the former NHS Blackpool and NHS North Lancashire. On October 31, 2018, Lancashire Community Health Services transferred to the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.On March 20, 2017, the Trust’s subsidiary company BFW Management Limited (Atlas) began trading to provide the Trust’s estates services.
The Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire and operates within a regional health economy catchment area that spans Lancashire and South Cumbria, supporting a population of 1.6 million. The Trust is a provider of specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology services across this region. The Trust does not operate outside of the United Kingdom.
The Trust provides a range of acute services to the 352,000 population of the Fylde coast health economy and the estimated 18 million visitors to the seaside town of Blackpool. Since April 1, 2012, the Trust also provides a wide range of community health services to the 445,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre and North Lancashire.
The Trust also hosts the National Artificial Eye Service, which provides services across England.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Clinical

1. Leadership and Management
• Responsible for ensuring adequate stock levels and ordering.
• Support the Service Manager in planning and implementation of policies, audit, patient information and research and development programs.
• Provide statistical information as required.
• Deputise for the Service Manager at meetings as and when required.
Education, Training and Development
• Provide support and mentorship to junior members of staff.
• Participate in teaching to a broad range of healthcare professionals, including medical, nursing, and other allied health professionals.
• Ensure personal compliance with regards to mandatory, professional, and personal development, according to service needs.
• Ensure personal compliance with CPD guidelines, professional codes of conduct and evaluate the effect of development on service delivery.
