Global Health External Communications Manager

Location: GSK House (Brentford/Tottenham Court Road)

Job Purpose

This role supports the Head of Communications Global Health on External Communications. This individual will be involved in developing and executing the Global Health teams’ External Communications and media engagement strategy, in partnership with the Global Health Corporate Media team, Government Affairs (where applicable) and colleagues within the Global Health organisation. The role will focus on building confidence in the Global Health strategy and R&D model to further our reputation as a Global Health leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages day-to-day External Communications and engagement activity for Global Health, executing reputation-building initiatives, partnering with R&D teams to manage milestone news flow and work with the Content and Channels Director to build a cadence of external communication.

  • Issues management across the Global Health product and pipeline area, enabling rapid and appropriate response if needed, including development of reactive positions.

  • Partner with the Global Health leadership team, in particular the R&D leads, to provide strategic communications counsel and coaching.

  • Work with cross functional teams, in particular GA, to ensure that GSK’s Global Health team is visible and External Communications opportunities maximised as part of high level meetings and congress activity.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key external partners and stakeholders, working closely with the Global Health Government Affairs team.

  • Build a bench of company spokespeople and subject matter experts and preparing spokespeople for media and speaking opportunities.

  • Support the development and delivery of the Global Health communications and engagement strategy aligned with Global Health business objectives; as part of the overall CGA objectives and plans.

  • Work alongside Global Health Internal Communications to raise internal awareness, engagement and pride across the enterprise, leveraging key LOC, regional and business communicators, as relevant to Global Health, to ensure alignment and reach and impact of Global Health content.

  • Where appropriate, manage agency support to ensure work meets brief, adds value and is delivered on time and on budget.

  • Defines clear, measurable goals and uses data to drive improvements; understands PR measurement and KPIs, leads tracking and reporting of key metrics.

  • Ensure all communications activity is compliant with GSK codes of conduct, ethics and values.

Why You?

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience

  • Extensive experience with product or corporate communications, media relations, and strategic communications.

  • Communications experience, within healthcare or another highly regulated industry.

  • Experience developing communications; adept at working across matrix organizations, particularly within global organizations.

  • Calm under pressure, resilient and flexible.

  • Effective, flexible team working with the ability to prioritise workload in an unpredictable environment with high personal accountability.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex scientific and medical information into clear and compelling messages for different audiences.

  • Experience with metrics-based communications planning, media strategy, and stakeholder relationship approaches.

  • Patient focused.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in creation and execution of content objectives and plans Leadership presence and confidence providing strategic counsel to peers and senior executives.

  • In-house experience, and well-versed in various aspects of the communications strategies deployed during drug development (e.g., disease awareness, drug launch/approval milestones).
