The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Civil Engineer to join our water sector team based in Manchester.
Water is one of our most precious natural assets, and our work is key to helping provide innovative sustainable solutions that balance our environmental impact. You will be instrumental in helping to improve the water environment through our projects. Sustainability is key to our purpose, promise, and values and this role is a great fit for someone who is passionate about this and to responding to the impact of the climate emergency.
In your day-to-day work you will solve engineering problems, use design software and tools to carry out engineering calculations, develop designs, and produce drawings, reports, and presentations. You’ll be doing all this is as part of a friendly and collaborative project team along with the support and guidance of our highly skilled Senior and Principal Civil Engineers. You’ll also be given dedicated mentors to support you in your journey to Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers.
As part of our Manchester water team, you can expect to be part of project teams working on:
- Managing water resources and reservoirs
- Producing high-quality drinking water for public supply
- Distributing water for our communities
- Protecting the natural environment from pollution
- Alleviating flooding for local communities
Our team in Manchester work closely with our well-established Warrington and Leeds teams who support our United Utilities frameworks and Yorkshire Water Strategic Planning Partnership (SPP) framework. There are opportunities to work across all project stages in asset planning / strategy, concept design, outline design, and detailed design. Our office is in the centre of Manchester, located close to Oxford Road train station and other public transport hubs so is easily commutable. You’ll be part of our local multi-sector Developing Professionals Group (DPG). They hold regular meetings in the office, providing peer support, mentoring, and guidance, and a supportive environment in which to learn, develop, and grow as a Graduate Civil Engineer.
About you:
As an individual, you’ll have a keen interest in the water industry as well as:
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or associated subject)
- A problem solver and not afraid to challenge conventional thinking
- Eligible to live and work in the UK at the time you start employment
Desirable, but not essential:
- A master’s degree in Civil Engineering (or associated subject)
- Previous experience via a summer placement or internship

Land Aid
Stantec has partnered with property sector charity LandAid as one of its corporate partners to join its mission to end youth homelessness.
In 2019/20, an estimated 120,000 young people asked for help from their local council because they were homeless or at risk of homelessness.
It’s a problem that LandAid are here to help tackle.
As the Property Industry Charity, LandAid unite over 200 organisations from across the sector, working together to bring an end to youth homelessness.
As a Charitable Trust, they distribute funding to frontline charities supporting the young and homeless – and primarily fund capital projects, such as renovating homes and building bedspaces.
We have seen the incredible impact that can happen when the industry unites and so Stantec are proud to be working alongside LandAid this year.
