Graduate Project Officer

Full Time / Fixed Term for 15 months due to funding

Join us, as a Graduate Project Officer within the Health Protection team in Public Health and help us bring our vision forward for a fairer society in which everyone can live healthy, happy, and fulfilling lives.

You'll work alongside our communities to help improve the numbers of people getting vaccinated across the whole life course and those accessing preventative screening programmes particularly bowel, breast and cervical screening. The health protection team within public health is a small but impactful team and your work will make a lasting difference on the lives of people in Leicester.

The role is a fixed term post for 15 months and is full time, 37 hours per week. With our flexible working scheme, you’ll have the opportunity to work from home and our office in Leicester City Centre.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Graduate Project Officer you’ll be involved in working with our communities to understand barriers to vaccination and screening and then working as part of our team to facilitate better access to improve both vaccination and screening uptake. Day to day you will support our Screening and Vaccination Programme Officer to make links with communities, facilitate the sharing of information and identifying opportunities to increase access. We work closely with colleagues in the NHS and other organisations and you will have plenty of opportunities to work alongside them and get to know them better.

As part of the health protection team you'll be able to learn about and be involved in infectious disease response working alongside our internal public health team but also wider partners including the UK Health Security Agency.

You'll undertake a variety of tasks within this role, such as drafting reports, writing minutes and agendas for meetings, undertaking project work and as you progress will act as the lead on aspects of the work where appropriate.

What you’ll need:

You'll have a keen interest in public health, community engagement and the wider health and wellbeing of the population of Leicester. As this is a graduate role, experience of working in a public health and/or community engagement role is not essential however, a degree qualification is required. You do not require a degree in a specific subject, we are looking for graduates from varying disciplines who are able to show how their transferrable skills will benefit the role.

In addition, you’ll hold the ability to organise your work efficiently, work under pressure and be adaptable. You’ll be a great team player who can work as part of a successful team. You’ll have experience, whether it be within a work or education setting of, solving problems, and thinking creatively to do so.

The assessment/interview will be held in person at City Hall in Leicester. As part of the recruitment process, you will be required to deliver a 10-minute presentation. Details of this will be shared with candidates who have been shortlisted.
