Job title: Grants Assistant

Salary: £24,131 - £28,633

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (flexible working will be considered)

Duration: 12 months fixed-term contract

Location: Home working or Office Based or mix of the two (office is at Alder Hey Children's Charity, based within Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool)

About us

Alder Hey Children’s Charity raises vital funds to help make Alder Hey Children’s Hospital a truly world-class, patient-friendly hospital for the 330,000 patients and families we care for every year.

The charity helps to fund a range of activities and projects that are designed to enhance and improve the lives of our amazing young patients. This includes the funding of specialist medical equipment to ensure our brilliant surgeons and clinical staff have the most up to date and cutting edge technology available and funding hi-tech distraction equipment designed and proven to reduce pain and anxiety in our patients. We also fund a range of programmes and special projects such as our ward musicians, our on-site magician and the play specialists we have on every ward.

We have recently closed our Surgical Neonatal Appeal, having successfully raised our £3m target towards a brand new, state of the art Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the hospital. This year we will be fundraising towards a new Medicinema and Same Day Emergency Care Centre, providing an unrivalled experience for our patients and their families.

About this role:

This is an exciting role supporting the grant awarding and grant management processes within the Charity.

Reporting to the Grants Manager, the post holder will offer administrative support to facilitate effective grant making and grant management, working alongside colleagues within Alder Hey Children’s Charity and Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

Duties will be wide and varied including preparing and proofreading documentation, maintaining accurate records, data input and analysis, diary management and minute taking.

Key Responsibilities will include:

Grant Applications, Awards & Reporting

  • Provide initial support to prospective grant applicants, log initial enquiries and applications ready for review by the Grants Manager and other members of the Charity team and/or Charitable Spending Committee.
  • Support the Grants Manager in the administration of grant awards, including preparing grant documentation and maintaining up to date and accurate records of grant giving.
  • Work with grant holders to prompt and process grant reports in a timely manner to meet the needs of donors and satisfy internal financial processes.
  • Support the Grants Manager in compiling reports and other information required for the Charitable Spending Committee.
  • Provide support to fundraising and finance colleagues within the Charity in relation to grant expenditure and provision of information to donors.

Communication & Relationships

  • Support the Grants Manager in promoting the opportunities to apply for Charitable Funding and in sharing the impact of projects funded by the Charity.
  • Provide a friendly and efficient service to all potential grant applicants and grant holders within the Trust, ensuring a professional approach to grant management that upholds the reputation of the Charity.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues within the Charity Team, servicing their donor communication needs and evidencing the impact of Charitable Funding.
  • Be an active and supportive member of the Alder Hey Children’s Charity team, contributing to the team’s development and working collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers.

Grant Database

  • Maintain the grant database on the Salesforce CRM system, ensuring this is kept up to date.
  • Support the Digital & Database team with development of the grants module on Salesforce to get the best out of the system.
  • Run regular reports from the Salesforce CRM system to provide analysis of current grant trends to the Grants Manager, Senior Management Team and Charitable Spending Committee.

Other Duties

  • Be an outstanding advocate for Alder Hey Children’s Charity in line with the core values of the organisation.
  • Gain and maintain in-depth knowledge and understanding of the charity’s work, priorities and future plans and act as a spokesperson for the Charity when required, including representing at external events as appropriate.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by your line manager.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable evidence of excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft packages and database information systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills across a range of audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to gather, interpret and assess information from a variety of sources.
  • Strong numerical skills, with an ability to analyse and interpret financial information.

Desirable

  • Paid or unpaid experience of working in or with the charitable sector.
  • Understanding of fundraising or grant giving processes.
  • Experience of Salesforce.

Skills & Attributes
