About the role
The main aim is to lead teams in delivering excellent customer-focused services, especially amidst significant housing pressure. This involves working closely with teams to achieve positive outcomes while ensuring that the Council’s statutory responsibilities regarding social housing letting and reviews are carried out efficiently and transparently. Additionally, the role involves acting as a service expert and leading on issues concerning lettings, reviews, and Rehousing. Essential qualifications include experience in budget management, as well as the ability to drive improvement initiatives and deliver transformative change within the service domain.
About the team
This role forms part of the Senior Management Team of the Housing Demand Service, contributing to the Council’s corporate priorities by leading and directing the performance of the Rehousing and Lettings Team. The team work with temporary accommodation residents to achieve planned moves into settled homes. They are responsible for the full range of letting activities, assessing residents for the housing register and sheltered housing, supporting moves from temporary accommodation, and discharging statutory review functions. The service also manages the Housing Register for General, Sheltered and Good Neighbour Housing and undertakes Reviews on for example the suitability of accommodation and on Banding decisions.
About you
The ideal candidate should have considerable management experience, ideally in a housing context, showing a thorough understanding of housing legislation, especially parts 6 and 7 of the Housing Acts, as well as familiarity with the Code of Guidance and relevant case law. They should excel in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong organisational skills and a focus on performance. Additionally, experience in budget management is vital, along with the ability to lead improvements and effectively implement changes.
