About Black Thrive

Black Thrive Global (BTG) evolved from the work of the Black Thrive Lambeth Partnership, established in 2016. We exist to address the inequalities that negatively impact the mental health and well-being of Black people so that the thriving of Black communities is the norm.

Our guiding principle is that Black communities should be at the forefront of reimagining, redefining, and co-creating a society where systemic racism and other oppressive systems have been dismantled so that they have fulfilling lives. We have two priorities – building a Black Thrive Research Institute and embedding race equity in systems change.

 

Purpose of the role

The New Head of Delivery, Lambeth, is designed to enhance our organisation's operational efficiency and effectiveness significantly. Reporting directly to and supporting the Programme Director, this position is central to our efforts to streamline internal processes, improve communication, foster a collaborative work environment, Cultivate excellent working relationships with community leaders, statutory partners and other key stakeholders in a way that can inspire collective action.

 

This role demands an experienced professional with a distinguished managerial track record of excellence and strategic thinking. The candidate will oversee day-to-day operations, manage critical projects and programmes, engage with external partners, and drive our team towards achieving organisational objectives.

 

Overview

 

  • Strategic Support and External Engagement: Provide critical support to the Programme Director, enhancing operational efficiency, assisting in strategic planning processes, and actively engaging with external partners, including stakeholders within the NHS and other health systems. This role requires a proactive approach to building and maintaining strategic relationships that benefit Black Thrive and its mission.
      Leadership and Management: Exhibit managerial excellence by leading by example, overseeing day-to-day operations, managing key projects focusing on delivering results, and fostering a positive, collaborative team environment.
      Facilitation of Coordination and Communication: Act as the central point for facilitating effective coordination and communication between workstreams and external partners. Ensure all team members and stakeholders are aligned and working towards our common goals.
      Implementation of Strategic Directives: Implement strategic directives from the Program Director, translating vision into actionable plans and effectively navigating the complexities of the health care and other systems landscape.
      Liaison and System Navigation: Serve as a critical liaison between the Program Director/ other team members and external partners. This includes bridging gaps and ensuring smooth collaboration across organisational boundaries.

 

Duties and Responsibilities
 

  1. Line Management: Provide leadership and line management to the Programme and Partnership Managers within the Black Thrive Lambeth team. Ensuring adherence to company policies and a high standard of professional conduct.
     
  2. Recruitment Oversight: Manage the recruitment pipeline for all new staff joining the Black Thrive Lambeth team, overseeing the process from job posting to final selection to ensure we attract and retain high-calibre talent.
     
  3. Budget Management: Oversee good budgeting practices within the Black Thrive Lambeth workstreams. Collaborate with programme and partnership managers to prepare and monitor budgets, ensuring accurate tracking of all income and expenditures.
     
  4. Statutory Compliance: Ensure that all management, governance, and performance arrangements meet statutory requirements, including health and safety, data protection, and timely annual returns to regulatory bodies.
     
  5. Programme Delivery and Community Engagement: Lead and manage Lambeth’s contributions to the Thriving Futures Collective, engaging with the community and supporting third-sector organisations to become effective change agents.

 

 

  • Research support: Facilitate the Research Institute and Observatory effort to embed the use of robust research methods into the activities of workstreams.
  •  
  • Community Representation: Ensure that the perspectives of Black communities are included in influencing the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust’s Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF).
     
  • Systemic Change Advocacy: Champion the needs and voices of Black Children, Young People, Families, and LGBTQ+ individuals to be at the forefront of systemic changes affecting their lives.
     
  • Team Support and Leadership: Provide effective and supportive leadership for the Black Thrive Lambeth Facilitation Team, enabling them to function as a backbone for systems change in line with the Collective Impact Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
     
  • Learning and Evaluation: Foster a continuous learning and evaluation culture within each workstream, ensuring programmes are assessed and improved based on rigorous data analysis and feedback.
     
  • Safeguarding Practices: Guarantee that Black Thrive Global's safeguarding policies and procedures are thoroughly implemented and upheld in all areas of responsibility.
     
  • External Representation: Act as an ambassador for Black Thrive Lambeth and Black Thrive Global. Deliver compelling presentations at conferences, contribute to articles and blogs, and engage in public dialogues that further our organisational goals and visibility.
     
  • Flexible Working: Demonstrate flexibility in work hours, accommodating occasional weekend and evening work as required by the organisation's needs and events.
     
  • Adaptability: Be prepared to take on additional responsibilities and tasks as the evolving needs of Black Thrive dictate and as the organisational objectives grow and change over time.
