About Us:
The Peak District National Park was Britain's first National Park established in 1951 as a result of its international significance and outstanding landscape, built heritage and wildlife. With its close proximity to a number of large towns and cities around a third of the UK population live within an hour of the Park. The Park is multifaceted with its rugged landscape, precious habitats which are vital in tackling climate change along with wildlife populations, mineral sites, and urban communities. This almost unique combination presents a set of exciting challenges for all who work at the Authority. The Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA) have two core statutory purposes, these are:
Conserving and enhancing natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage whilst
Promoting opportunities for understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of the area by the public
We have big ambitions and an aspirational long-term vision outlining where we want the Peak District to be by 2043. The UK's National Parks have a huge role to play in nature recovery, meeting net zero ambitions, delivering thriving communities and helping with the nation's well being.
