Job description

Head of Safety & Resilience

We are excited to be looking for a Head of Safety & Resilience to join the team at Emirates Old Trafford, home of Lancashire Cricket. This role is primarily focused on Safety Management at Emirates Old Trafford and at other venues that may be used during the season. This role will support Executive Team with strategic and day-to-day management of all Safety aspects at the Club.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of Safety in both match day and nonmatch day mode.
  • Ensure all regulatory, legislative and Brand requirements (internal and external) are always adhered to.
  • Ensure all aspects of the Club’s Safety Policies are implemented.
  • Implement, monitor, and review the Club’s Safety Management systems (including but not limited to Fire, Health & Safety, Food Safety.)
  • Develop and implement an Annual Audit/Signoff for all aspects of Safety at the Club.
  • Develop a positive Safety Culture in all departments through the implementation of Safety policies and procedures across the Club.
  • Support the Operations Director as required and be the lead in all Match Day and Concert strategic Safety planning including but not limited to the local Safety Advisory Group (SAG).
  • Ensure Near Miss and Accidents reporting as required, as well as reporting incidents to the HSE.
  • Lead on accident or incident investigation where required.
  • Carry out regular workplace Health and Safety Audits across all departments including External Audits in relevant areas.
  • Ensure that COSHH assessments are up to date and complete within certain departments.
  • Ensure the Safety Team manage all safety resources on site (such as first aid boxes and defibrillators, security vests and radios), ensuring these are audited and replenished where necessary.
  • Manage the Safety Team, including Casual Staff ensuring the Club Policies and agreed Budgetary processes and goals are met.
  • Identify staff health and safety training requirements through a training matrix and work with the Human Resources/People Operations team in sourcing qualified trainer(s) and coordinating the delivery of training.
  • Ensure attendance at Health and Safety meetings on site with Clients and contractors.
  • On all cricket match days, concerts and other event days, ensure support to the Venue Safety Officer and/or Deputy Safety Officer as required.
  • Ensure all preevent checks (both match and non-match day) are carried out in accordance with procedures.
  • Liaise, where necessary with all relevant external organisations regarding the safe operation of events. This will include police, medical, local authority and other emergency services.
  • Maintain all necessary records and documentation related to the safe operation of events at the venue and report to the ECB, SGSA or local authority as appropriate.

Required Qualifications and Experience -

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or agreement to undertake).
  • Level 4 Diploma in Spectator Safety
  • Experience of working in large organisation in a similar health and safety role.
  • Previously held Safety Officer duties in a Sports venue.
  • Previously held Safety Officer duties for, and delivered, Concerts.
  • Member of IOSH
  • Knowledge of Food Safety Management Systems
  • Knowledge of General Safety Certificates and Safety of Sports Grounds Legislation
  • Supervision and management of staff.

Desirable

  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or similar
  • Experience working in a large venue, stadium or visitor attraction.
  • Working towards CMIOSH
  • Good working knowledge of General Safety Certificates and Safety of Sports Grounds Legislation
  • Good knowledge of Incident Management arrangements and Business Continuity plans.
