A brand new opportunity has arisen for a Health & Safety Manager to join a reputable shop fit-out and refurb company based in Birmingham.
This role would be both an advisory role and hands on position with a focus on the site and equipment in the Birmingham site and random audits conducted at customer sites where contractors are conducting construction work.
This role is considered a managerial level role and works closely with the MD of the business, as well as the resource team, projects team and electrical team.
The non-negotiables for this role is we need a candidate that is IOSH and NEBOSH qualified with some electrical knowledge.
Current qualification of 17th edition electrical installations would be a big plus due to the upcoming projects for the company.
Also experience within retail or commercial property is a plus.
Salary = Approx £50K per annum + £5K car allowance
Company credit card provided and mileage to customer site can be expensed.
Hours = 37 hours a week Mon-Fri (however some need for customer site audits to take place out of hours either over the weekend or on evenings)
Office location = Birmingham. Commutable from Solihull and local area.
Duties:
- To advise the managing director, directors and managers on all safety, Health and welfare matters
- Understand the application of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, CDM Regulations 2015 and other legislation
- Keep up to date with changes in current legislation and to bring to the attention of the managing director any relevant new legislation
- Attend such courses/seminars run by external sources
- Ensure that all “assessments” as required by legislation are conducted and reviewed at relevant intervals and to maintain records of the same
- To recommend control measures and advise on the standard of P.P.E. issued to employees
- Conduct Health and Safety inspections and prepare reports
- To carry out investigations into all accidents and near-miss incidents and to record the findings on the relevant forms
- To highlight areas where training/certification is required to meet the standards imposed by legislation
- To manage all facility annual and bi-annual inspections and maintenance inspections within premises
- To produce site/ project specific documentation i.e., risk assessments, COSHH assessments, etc
- To produce COSHH assessments for all warehouse activities
- Implement and keep updated the Health and Safety Management System to the ISO standards of 14001 and 45001 making sure the accreditation renewal process is successful year on year
- Keep all other company and client accreditation schemes
- To manage the environmental side of the business to the standard of ISO14001

The ideal candidate for this role:
- Must be IOSH and NEBOSH qualified
- Knowledge of ISO14001 & 45001 is essential
- Must be a driver
- Retail industry or commercial property industry experience would be desirable but not essential
- Can be office based in Birmingham Mon-Fri
- Happy to work out of hours on evenings and weekends where time is given back to you as holiday
