Leeds City Council are seeking a Health and Safety Officer with a focus on Highways to assist our Highways and Transportation Service. The role involves ensuring compliance with all statutory and legislative Health and Safety requirements, monitoring risks, and providing essential training and advice.
Day to Day of the Role:- Monitor and manage risk assessments for the Highways and Transportation Service.
- Conduct accident monitoring and investigations as required.
- Perform site visits and audits to ensure compliance and Safety.
- Deliver Health and Safety related training to staff.
- Manage documents relating to Health and Safety within the service.
- Attend meetings, providing updates and advice to managers on Health and Safety matters.
- Identify accident trends and propose mitigation strategies.
- Present Health and Safety data to managers and at relevant meetings.
- Assist in the production of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
- Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety within a Highways setting.
- Considerable experience working within Health and Safety.
- Ability to provide leadership that empowers colleagues to achieve results.
- Skilled in managing and monitoring performance, setting clear objectives for review.
- Effective contribution to internal and external meetings.
- Ability to develop productive working relationships that command respect, trust, and confidence.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and process application.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, including Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
- Experience with Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR).
