Job description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic Health Care Assistant to support us in delivering urgent care at Crowborough Minor Injury Unit for the majority of the time, but also at Lewes Urgent Treatment Centre and Uckfield Minor Injury Unit. You will work as a member of the Nursing team ensuring the effective and safe delivery of care to patients whilst under the guidance, instruction and supervision of our team of Emergency Nurse & Care Practitioners. The post holder will ensure the highest possible standards of care are received by patients and their carers whilst in the Unit.
1. Meeting and greeting patients and ensuring they are appropriately registered to the Minor Injury Unit/ Urgent Treatment Centre
2. Undertaking basic assessment of the patient ensuring accurate documentation and undertaking observations where appropriate. Able to demonstrate basic clinical assessment and convey any concerns to the Emergency Nurse or Care Practitioner on duty
3. Perform ECG’s, Blood Capillary testing, Snellen eye tests, etc
4. Provide treatments to patients in the form of burns first aid, cleansing wounds, applying dressings, splints, walking boots, plaster casts, etc
5. Maintain accurate written and computerised patient records
6. Book appropriate appointments and follow ups for patients
7. Give out verbal and written advice according to patient’s diagnosis
8. Ensures department is clean and tidy and rooms are available for use
9. Initiates emergency treatment where needed within own scope of skills and experience
10. Access and follow Trust Policies and Procedures as required

1. Supports the Emergency Nurse, Care Practitioner or medical staff in ensuring the maintenance of high standards of nursing care.
2. Maintains the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of patients, relatives and colleagues at all times
3. Supports the Unit in maintaining accurate documentation including the registering of patients on SystmOne and updating of their personal data
4. d) Responsible for monitoring, maintaining and ordering of stock items.
5. e) Ensures that all medical and emergency equipment is kept in a safe condition and is ready for use when required, and that faulty equipment is reported and/or replaced as necessary.
6. f) Participates in Nursing and Clinical Audit in the unit, collecting information as required.
7. g) Supports others in the application of local standards, policies and philosophies which further the philosophy of patient centred, individual and evidence based care for all patients.
8. h) Is aware of legislation and responsibilities under the Health & Safety at work act. Maintains a safe environment with regard to Risk Management policies and procedures. Is aware of and follows policies and procedures with regard to patients, themselves, other members of staff, equipment and the general public.
9. i) To report personal sickness and absence appropriately.
10. j) Participates in the Performance Development Review process.
11. k) To undertake training and professional development as required, complete own Mandatory training and identify own development needs to keep updated as needed and maintain clinical and professional credibility
